THE rising cost of motoring means families in
Crosby are spending more than twice the
amount they need to on travel costs, according
to a new study.
Merseytravel says the study, commissioned
using official AA research, highlights the
growing cost gap between cars and public
transport and demonstrates that families could

changing their travel habits.
Commuters making a 13–mile daily round
trip to Liverpool city centre in a small family car
are said to be paying £1,390 each year, a figure
which includes annual standing charges such
as road tax and insurance, plus running costs
like fuel, tyres and parking.
Making that same journey in a larger, more
expensive car can take the cost up to £8,000
due to higher costs such as insurance, petrol

comparative cost of an annual Trio pass
covering return journeys from Crosby to
Liverpool, is some way less at £734.
Merseytravel chairman Councillor Liam
Robinson, said: “This study shows that a much
smarter choice for commuters and their
families’ budgets is to leave their car at home
where possible and travel by bus or rail using a
season ticket, allowing them to travel around
the region at a significantly lower cost.”

local companies wherever possible.
“A workshop is planned later in the
summer featuring major contractors and
will be looking at issues including contacts
on site and pricing.”
