Troubleshooting<br />

If your phone is not performing to your expect<strong>at</strong>ions, please try these simple steps first.<br />

Symptom<br />

The charge LED won’t illumin<strong>at</strong>e<br />

when the handset is placed in<br />

the cradle.<br />

The audio sounds weak<br />

and/or scr<strong>at</strong>chy.<br />

Can’t make or receive calls.<br />

Can’t make an internal call.<br />

The handset or the base doesn’t ring<br />

or receive an intercom call.<br />

“Unavailable” appears in<br />

the display.<br />

Severe noise interference.<br />

TROUBLESHOOTING<br />

Suggestion<br />

• Make sure the AC adapter is plugged into the base<br />

(or the charger (for <strong>DCT5280</strong>-2 only)) and wall outlet.<br />

• Make sure the handset is properly se<strong>at</strong>ed in the base.<br />

• Make sure the charging contacts on the handset and the base<br />

(or the charger (for <strong>DCT5280</strong>-2 only)) are clean.<br />

• Move the handset and/or base to a different loc<strong>at</strong>ion away from<br />

metal objects or appliances and try again.<br />

• Make sure th<strong>at</strong> you are not too far from the base.<br />

• Check both ends of the base telephone line cord.<br />

• Make sure the AC adapter is plugged into the base and wall outlet.<br />

• Disconnect the AC adapter for a few minutes, then reconnect it.<br />

• Remove the base ID (see “Replacing the Base Setting” on page 30) and<br />

register the handset (see “Register the Handset” on page 65).<br />

• Make sure th<strong>at</strong> you are not too far from the base.<br />

• If an outside call is already established, you may not be able to make<br />

another outside call.<br />

• Make sure th<strong>at</strong> the receiving handset is not already in use.<br />

• Make sure th<strong>at</strong> the handset or the base is in the standby mode.<br />

• When a handset is recording a convers<strong>at</strong>ion, an intercom call from the base is not<br />

available. Make sure a handset is not recording a convers<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

• Charge the b<strong>at</strong>teries in the handset for 17-20 hours by placing the handset on<br />

the base or charging cradle.<br />

• The handset may be too far away from the base unit.<br />

• Place the base unit away from appliances or metal objects.<br />

• Remove the base ID (see “Replacing the Base Setting” on page 30) and<br />

register the handset (see “Register the Handset” on page 65).<br />

• Make sure th<strong>at</strong> another handset(s) or the base is not in use, and try the phone again.<br />

• Make sure th<strong>at</strong> you are not too far from the base.<br />

• Keep the handset away from microwave ovens, computers,<br />

remote control toys, wireless microphones, alarm systems, intercoms,<br />

room monitors, fluorescent lights, and electrical appliances.<br />

• Move to another loc<strong>at</strong>ion or turn off the source of interference.
