The RMS <strong>and</strong> b<strong>and</strong>width utilities are driven by an interface different from that of the main<br />
programs described above. Rather than using screens, they use a linear prompt-based interface.<br />
Users are prompted for various data <strong>and</strong> results are then posted to the screen. These programs<br />
were more challenging to capture in a comm<strong>and</strong>-line format because the inputs had to be entered<br />
at one time <strong>and</strong> the outputs displayed at one time. Figure 2.3 shows an example of an RMS<br />
calculation <strong>and</strong> the prompts that drive it.<br />

The last function performs frequency response arithmetic. Responses can be modified<br />
individually using scale factors <strong>and</strong> powers of s <strong>and</strong> then combined with basic arithmetic<br />
operations. The utility will perform these operations for magnitude, phase, coherence, <strong>and</strong> the<br />
auto <strong>and</strong> cross-spectra as desired. The option to perform this arithmetic allows users to check data<br />
