FROM THE EDITOR
The 1991 U.S. Nationals are
history. It was a production not
unlike a broadway show.
Planning for this match began
a year ago and culminated
Saturday morning, Sept,ember
14th at the shoot-offs.
VVhat does it take to put on
a production such as this? A lot
of dedicated individuals!
Once the wheels were in
gear, courses of fire designed
and slots distributed, it was
time for the set-up crew to
begin construction. George
Metcalf had the props at each
stage ready for assembly when
the crew got to PASA on the
2nd of September. From then
until Saturday the 7th, the
hammers and nails really flew.
That entire week there were 10
individuals working from 8 am
to 8 pm setting up the stages.
The remainder of our Range
Officer staff arrived on Friday
& Saturday with an RO staff
meeting Saturday evening. In
all, a total of 54 USPSA range
officials and staff gathered to
administer the match. For
some, it was their fifth year
together. In addition, PASA
had 50 part & full time workers
at our disposal.
What is the difference
between USPSA staff & PASA
staff? According to our contract
with PASA, "USPSA shall pay
PASA $2.00 per volunteer hour
provided for assistance during
the actual running of the match
stages''. Other than the hourly
payment, under our new
contract, PASA staff receives
nothing more from. USPSA. If
the range officers are on USPSA
staff, the individuals at their
own expense must get to the
match location and USPSA
Most of our members don't
realize the benefits we receive
from the Quincy Visitors &
Convention Bureau for our
range staff. According to our
contract with the Convention
Bureau,"The bureau will
negotiate and make
arrangements for all meeting
rooms & prize distribution
rooms at no cost to USPSA. In
addition, the bureau agrees that
the hotel selected by USPSA as
"Staff Hotel" will provide 250
room nights for staff at NO
CHARGE. The bureau also
prints and makes available to
USPSA $6,000 of Quincy cash
for USPSA purchase at a 20%
discount. The Quincy cash is
used by USPSA staff for meals "
'What other town would give us
this support?
The Sunday aft,er the shootoff
we host a staff thank you
breakfast and prize drawing.
This year, USPSA allocated
some additional money prizes
for those staff' members that
had been with USPSA over 2
consecutive years. This is in
addition to a drawing for guns
& prizes for which all staff are
eligible. After all the goodbyes
were said, hugs were given and
- believe it or not - the "see you
next year" words were
exchanged, our great staff
headed for home and families.
Thanks to all of you for
making USPSA and the U.S.
Nationals look good.
