NEW CLASS (Continued)
holster, it is suggested that
existing standards and rules be
used. It is felt that the principle
issue that needs to be addressed
is the firearm and that
secondary distractions like
holster rules should be avoided
at this time.
PROPOSED CLASS NAMES
The names for our
competitive classes should be
sensitive to adverse connotations
that could be used against them.
It could be argued that if assault
rifles have been named
something more benign, the
general public would not be so
easily persuaded to support the
laws that ban them.
The following five names
have been suggested for the new
restricted class:
1. Defense Class
2. Stock Class
3. Practical Class
4. Sportsman Class
5. Tactical Class
USPSA CLASSIFICATION
PROGRAM MODIFICATIONS
Because of the proposed
rules that limit the alterations
that may be done to firearms in
this class, it is unrealistic to
expect competitors using these
guns to score on qualifier
matches as well as competitors
in the unlimited class. It
therefore follows that two
separate classification systems
should be iniplemented that
would permit the ranking of
competitors in both classes.
This would mean members could
hold two classifications if they
wish, one for each class.
However, this will create some
problems that need to be
addressed.
NIP
This proposal creates
significant additional
administrative and cost burdens
on the national office. While it
is anticipated that the
acceptance of this new class will
help expand the membership
and, therefore, generate the
additional funds necessary to
pay the incremental costs, it is
recommended that, for the
remainder of 1991 and for
calendar 1992, the current
classification system be retained.
This will allow sufficient time
for the programming changes
that will be required, it will
allow time for determining and
filling the staffing requirements
for the inputting of data and,
finally, this will allow time for
the accumulation of additional
funds to help pay for the new
classification program.
It is proposed that once the
dual classification system is in
place, slots to the national
championship be allocated on
the basis of the ratio of shooters
who are classified in each class.
Depending on the number of
shooters who shoot this class,
local clubs may or may not
provide for sepatate awards as
they see fit.
MULTI-CLASS COMPETITIVE
CONSIDERATIONS
A potential problem exists
when multiple classes are
recognized.
For example, when two
classes are available, as is called
for in this proposal, a question
arises as to which score or scores
should be recognized for a
competitor who wishes to shoot
in both classes.
It is axiomatic that when a
competitor runs a course' of fire
twice, once in each class,
