egardless of the fact that he
uses a different firearm each
time, he has gained an
advantage on his second run
over the competitor who only
runs the course of fire once. It
is therefore proposed that only
the first run should be counted
for score.
(FOOTNOTES)
1. Weight restrictions were
exarained but found to be
unworkable. For example,
a Series 70 Colt weighs
approximately 1-1/2 ounces
more than a Series 80 Colt,
but the specifications
available from Colt don't
reflect this difference. Other
manufacturers also publish
only approximate weights.
Without accurate weight
information from
manufacturers, a weight rule
is unworkable. In addition,
the limited modifications
allowed will restrict weight
changes.
2. Limits on size were
reviewed. It has been
suggested that a box with
fixed dimensions be used to
keep weapon size and weight
from being utilized for a
competitive advantage. A
limitation on width is a
particularly difficult
dimension to establish
because of the need for
ambidextrous safeties by
left-handed shooters using
larger capacity handg-uns.
Use of a box would perhaps
be more appropriate if this
class were to be strictly a
tactical handgun class.
Since this class is int,ended
to be somewhat broader in
scope, the box concept is too
restrictive. Finally, the box
dimensions that were
recommended for semi-autos
were not workable for
revolvers.
3. A maximum retail value has
been suggested to help keep
down the cost of admission
to this class. Because of the
many foreign produced
firearms that are
appropriate for this class
and the foreign exchange
variables associated with
buying them, this constraint
was not utilized.
4. Cost limitations on
modifications were explored.
It is felt that the proposed
limitations on modifications
will keep costs down and
this will adequately address
the problem of excessive
costs.
5. A frequent suggestion was
that professional shooters be
allowed to compete only in
the unlimited class. The
issue of professional shooters
needs to be addressed but it
is felt that it should be dealt
with "head on" and it should
not be tied to this proposal.
6. Holster types and location
are fundaxnental elements of
the practical class
requirements as set forth 'in
a proposal that is to be
considered at the next IPSC
world assembly. The
standard to be used is that
the holster and equipment
must be suitable in the
opinion of the chief range
officer. Subjective standar&
such as these should be
avoided wherever possible.
