KENTUCKY STATE CHAMPS
By: Vic Kersey A-1160
On July 7th and
8th, the Ashland
Gun Club, in
Ashland, Kentucky,
held its 4th Annual
Invitation
Tournament. This
year, we also had
the distinct pleasure
of hosting the
Kentucky State
Championship. The
event was sponsored
by Springfield
Armory, with cosponsors
Smith and
Wesson, D&J
Custom Guns, and Francis
Coals.
Under the direction of Bob
Boyd, Match Director, and Gary
(Inspector Gadget) Stevens,
Range Master, we successfully
ran 125 competitors through six
stages requiring over 150 rounds
of ammunition. One of the most
entertaining stages was "Down
and Out," designed by Gary
Stevens, consisting of pepper
poppers, a swinging target,
gravity turners, upper "A" zone
steel plates, no-shoots and a
few(very few) full-size stationary
IPSC targets. Rick Castelow
won this stage. Todd Jarrett
finished second.
"Wall to Wall" was deemed
the sleeper by several shooters.
It was a multi-target, closerange
event where six of the
nine shoot targets were partially
concealed by no-shoot targets.
Todd Jarrett ran away from the
pack on this stage and Larry
Brown placed second.
Overall, the Kentucky State
Championships were a complete
success and were conducted in
a quality manner not unlike the
Nationals. No major difficulties
were experienced during the
November/December 1991
Winners of the Kentucky State
two-day event.
After the computers finalized
the scores, Todd Jarrett of
Virginia walked away with the
High Overall honors and Mark
Humphrey was Kentucky State
Champion. I can assure you
