• Financing through loan product development or leasing schemes the<br />

mechanization of production operation – ridge making, planting, harvesting<br />

• Development of rural infrastructure including farm to market link roads, collection<br />

points, temporary shed for short term storage, grading, packing etc,<br />

• Improvement of the input supply process to ensure that the most appropriate<br />

quantity and quality of fertilizer and pesticides are available, in addition to seed<br />

potatoes<br />

• Improved short term storage facilities are required in the collection points and<br />

wholesale markets<br />

• Improvement of relationships with financial institutions through discussions<br />

between the financial institutions (banks, MFIs), the seed suppliers and the<br />

grower. These discussions need to focus on rebuilding confidence among the<br />

participants throughout in the lending process.<br />

• The production credit required to produce an optimal amount of potatoes for the<br />

season. Developing products like input credit with terms and conditions that the<br />

payment structure accurately reflects the actual cash flows from potato<br />

production (perhaps smaller, multiple installments would be better than one lump<br />

sum payment).<br />

• Investment in cold storage, cold transport and<br />

• Equity investment for potato processing of long- life products<br />

• Guaranteed lending for purchasing the fertilizers, CPP and certified seeds<br />

• Equity investment for contraction cold storage, establishing potato cooling and<br />

processing plants<br />
