Message from <strong>the</strong> Executive Board<br />

Dear stakehol<strong>de</strong>r,<br />

Against <strong>the</strong> background of an uncertain <strong>and</strong> very volatile soft<br />

drink <strong>and</strong> juice market, <strong>Refresco</strong> <strong>de</strong>livered solid performance in<br />

2010. Revenue grew by 7.4 % <strong>and</strong> volume grew by 12.1 %. The<br />

second half of 2010 was more difficult than <strong>the</strong> first six months.<br />

Margins ero<strong>de</strong>d due to surging input costs (raw materials <strong>and</strong><br />

packaging material), which cost savings could not fully offset.<br />

Fur<strong>the</strong>r growth with our existing customers has been a key<br />

achievement during <strong>the</strong> year. By exp<strong>and</strong>ing our product<br />

port folio with our customers we staged mo<strong>de</strong>st growth amid<br />

a virtually flat private label market in 2010. Thanks to our<br />

established leading market position <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> drive <strong>and</strong><br />

professionality of our people, who carried out our strategy<br />

with unrelenting focus, 2010 will go on record as yet ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

year of success.<br />

A capital commitment of Euro 84 million by 3i <strong>and</strong> a financing<br />

facility of Euro 140 million toge<strong>the</strong>r provi<strong>de</strong>d a solid financial<br />

basis from which to grow <strong>and</strong> actively execute our Buy & Build<br />

strategy. This enabled <strong>the</strong> acquisition of Soft Drinks International<br />

(SDI) in Germany. SDI streng<strong>the</strong>ns our position by providing<br />

access to <strong>the</strong> CSD market in Germany, where we are now able<br />

to offer a total product portfolio. This same financial basis also<br />

created scope for <strong>the</strong> planned acquisition of Spumador (signed,<br />

in <strong>the</strong> process of being closed).<br />

A sustainable supply chain<br />

The <strong>the</strong>me of this year’s Annual Report is ‘A sustainable supply<br />

chain’. After having focused on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Refresco</strong> company in 2008<br />

<strong>and</strong> in 2009 on its private label market, we now want to provi<strong>de</strong><br />

insight into our supply chain approach <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> way we work with<br />

our suppliers. When we use <strong>the</strong> word sustainability, we have<br />

two meanings in mind. First, <strong>Refresco</strong> is positioning itself more<br />

<strong>and</strong> more as a supply chain solution for its retail customers.<br />

With our suppliers, we guarantee quality <strong>and</strong> availability of <strong>the</strong><br />

product for <strong>the</strong> right, competitive price. We put strong emphasis<br />

on building a reliable supply chain with a long­term focus. We work<br />

hard on continuously improving <strong>processes</strong> <strong>and</strong> building long­term<br />

relationships with our suppliers in or<strong>de</strong>r to be <strong>the</strong> best soft<br />

drink <strong>and</strong> fruit juice supplier, serving international <strong>and</strong> national<br />

retailers <strong>and</strong> A­br<strong>and</strong>s, for today <strong>and</strong> tomorrow. Second, in<br />

our business we acknowledge our responsibility towards <strong>the</strong><br />

environment <strong>and</strong> we strive to reduce our negative impact on<br />

<strong>the</strong> environment wherever feasible. In our business this year we<br />

launched many initiatives that <strong>de</strong>monstrate our commitment to<br />

doing business sustainably along <strong>the</strong> entire supply chain while<br />

reducing our environmental footprint. We have ma<strong>de</strong> progress<br />

regarding sustainability in areas most relevant to our business.<br />

Many initiatives have been launched across <strong>the</strong> organization to<br />

reduce energy <strong>and</strong> water consumption <strong>and</strong> minimize waste in all<br />

our production <strong>processes</strong>. All our Business Units are committed<br />

to maximizing <strong>the</strong> recycled PET content of our PET bottles.<br />
