W. Zeng & Law, a species of the genus Manglietia(Magnoliaceae), is only distributed in evergreen broad-leaved forest at altitudes700 - 800 m in Mt. Nankunshan, Longmen County, Guangdong Province, China.Only one sprouting tree was found when this new species was published in 2004(Zeng & Law, 2004). Since 2007, M. longipedunculata(DD) was listed in The RedList of Magnoliaceae(Cicuzza et al., 2007), butthere is no sufficient dataabout the populationnumbers, population size,the ecological andbiological characteristics.Funded by the BotanicGardens ConservationInternational (BGCI) in2008, the fieldinvestigation andpollination biologicalexperiments of M.longipedunculata duringthe flowering and fruitingtime has been carried outby South China BotanicalGarden to evaluate itsconservation status andput forward the efficientconservation strategies.Bamboo scaffolding for artificial pollination ofM. longipedunculata © Q.
