50. OProphet (Muhammad Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam)! Verily, we have made lawful to You Yourwives, to whom You have paid their Mahr (bridal money given by the husband to his wife at thetime of marriage), and those (captives or slaves) whom Your Right Hand possesses - whomAllâh has given to you, and the daughters of Your 'Amm (paternal uncles) and the daughters ofYour 'Ammah (paternal aunts) and the daughters of Your Khâl (maternal uncles) and thedaughters of Your Khâlah (maternal aunts) who migrated (from Makkah) with you, and abelieving woman if she offers herself to the Prophet, and the Prophet wishes to marry her; aprivilege for You only, not for the (rest of) the believers. Indeed we know what we haveenjoined upon them about their wives and those (captives or slaves) whom their Right handspossess, - In order that there should be no difficulty on you. And Allâh is ever Oft Forgiving,Most Merciful.The offer and acceptance must be done in one sittingThe offer is made, ‘Will you marry my daughter?’, the potential groom gets a call he says one second and goesoutside to take the call and then comes back and says, ‘yes’ , it is not acceptable. It must bedone in one sitting, offer is made and accepted. Ulema say that if there is a period of time thatshows you are not interested in accepting the offer it cancels the offer.The acceptance must correspond to what is being offeredThe contract must be a “done deal” at that moment.
