Dr.Chas. L. Minor, so well known as atuberculosis authority, not only in thisState, but in the nation, in writing tothe Board strongly recommending Dr.Pendleton and urging the Board toelect him as Medical Director of theSanatorium, says:"I am sure you willagree with mo that the first thing is aman. With a strong, competent manat the head of affairs, the simplestbuilding makes a strong sanatorium;without it, the most elaborate is useless."We thoroughly agree with Dr.Minor's reasoning, and because we do,we know that the absolute success ofthe State Sanatorium is henceforth assured.We have the man.Allow me just a few words to introduceDr. Pendleton, and then, Ishall let those who speak with authoritytell you how well qualified heis to take care of our patients. Dr.Pendleton is a Southern man and waseducated at the University of Virginia.He looks to be about twenty-eight orthirty years old. After graduating atthe University of Virginia in medicine,he was assistant to Dr. Watts, Professorof Surgery in the hospital connectedwith that Institution. Servingunder Dr. Watts, he contracted tuberculosis,went to Saranac Lake and wascured. Like most specialists in tuberculosis,he became interested in andtook tuberculosis as his specialty as aresult of his personal experience withthe disease.After regaining his healthat Saranac Lake, and incidentally afterlearning the methods of cure practicedin that well known Institution,he accepted an assistantship with Dr.David R. Lyman, of the Gay lord FarmSanatorium, the State Institution atWallingford, Connecticut, where heserved three years, for five monthsof the time having absolute charge ofthat Institution. From the GaylordFarm Sanatorium, he went to the HopeFarm Sanatorium, Marshallton, Delaware,to take charge of that Institution.What Others Say of Dr. Pendleton.Dr. Livingston Farrand, ExecutiveSecretary of the National Associationfor the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis,who is qualified to take acomprehensive view of the tuberculosisproblem as a national problem, writesconcerning Dr. Pendleton: "I havemade further inquiries concerning Dr.Wilson Pendleton, * * * with referenceto his administrative capacity andgeneral availability for the positionyou have in mind with your department.I have this morning received aletter from Dr. David R.
