If you finda better one for the position you areindeed to be congratulated."Dr. Chas. L. Minor writes: "* * *Coming now to the purpose of my letter,my friend, Dr. David Lyman, ofthe Connecticut State Sanatorium atWallingford and one of the best in thisline in the whole country, has writtenme about his former assistant, nowtoin charge of the Delaware State Sanatorium,Dr. Pendleton. * * * While Ido not know him [Dr. Pendleton] personally,I know Dr. Lyman so well asa man of high character and greatability, and the fact that he has writtento me endorsing him [Pendleton]in the highest terms as an Al mansatisfies me of his unusual competencefor the place. * * * Having hadexperience in so admirably conducteda sanatorium as Wallingford, which,from my personal experience, I considerthe best even in the country, andthen more recently in Delaware, Dr.Pendleton should be an excellent manfor the place. Trusting you will givehis application most serious consideration,I am, with best wishes for thesuccess of the new sanatorium, etc."Another well known North Carolinaauthority on tuberculosis, Dr. Wm.Leroy Dunn, Asheville, N. C, writes:"I have received a letter from myfriend. Dr. David R. Lyman, statingthat he had recommended to your considerationDr. Wilson Pendleton, whowas formerly his assistant, for theplace of House Physician at the StateSanatorium. I think I met Dr. Pendletona few years ago when I wasat Wallingford, but on any impressionobtained at that time I would not placeany weight. However, I would givethe greatest weight possible to anyrecommendation made by Dave Lyman.I do not know whether you know himpersonally or not. If not, you havemissed a lot. Lyman is one of thevery best men in this line of work inthis country. He has been very successfulat Wallingford, besides youcan count absolutely upon every wordhe says, and any man that he wouldrecommend for the place would be inevery sense persona grata to Minorand myself, and to any of those men
