They have also been categorized into constructional phaseimpacts and operational phase impacts.5.1 Potential Positive Impacts5.1.1 Regional EconomyIt is anticipated that the upgrading of the N1 road will tremendously improve theeconomic activities and links between countries in the sub-region. The existing roadprovides the link between Tema Motorway and the Winneba-Kasoa Highway andfacilitates the haulage of goods by heavy trucks from some land-locked countries inWest Africa. It is also an important link to the country’s only international airport. Animprovement will thus impact positively on the regional economy as accessibility andcommercial activities will be enhanced thereby facilitating regional economicintegration.34
