BRIAN WEVERBERGH<br />
TE, Sr., 6-1, 230; West Port, Conn.<br />
2007: In his first season starting at tight end, Weverbergh set a<br />
school record with 44 catches. He earned all-region, all-ECAC<br />
and all-conference accolades and was named the team’s Outstanding<br />
Lineman at the postseason banquet. Weverbergh was<br />
named Ithaca’s Honorary Offensive Captain three times – after<br />
King’s, St. John Fisher and Cortland games. He caught a pair of<br />
touchdown passes in the Cortaca Jug win, gaining a career-best<br />
128 yards (the program’s third-highest single-game total by a tight end) and was named<br />
to D3football.com’s Team of the Week. Weverbergh caught two more scoring passes<br />
against #1 Mount Union in the NCAA playoffs. He gained 104 yards in the King’s win,<br />
becoming the first Ithaca tight end to reach 100 yards since 1997. He recorded a careerbest<br />
six catches against both Hartwick and St. John Fisher. 2006: Weverbergh played in eight games and made<br />
four starts at fullback. He caught 14 passes, the most of any Bomber back, including a season-high five in the<br />
Cortaca Jug game. He added three receptions at both St. John Fisher and Alfred. Weverbergh’s first catch of the<br />
season went for a 34-yard touchdown in the Buffalo State win. 2005: Weverbergh played in every game, appearing<br />
at tight end and fullback and on special teams. He caught his first career touchdown pass in the win over<br />
#17 St. John Fisher. He caught a season-best three passes in the win over Alfred that clinched the Empire 8 title.<br />
Weverbergh started the Springfield and Alfred games at fullback. His 12 catches matched the most by a Bomber<br />
freshman since Dan Hayes set a school record with 20 catches in 1994. Weverbergh’s 15 special teams tackles<br />
were second on the team. He collected three tackles in kick coverage in the Hartwick and Alfred wins. He was<br />
named Ithaca’s Hustler of the Week following the season-opening win at Buffalo State. High School: A 2005<br />
graduate of Staples High School, Weverbergh was coached by Marce Petraccio. He was all-area, all-county and<br />
all-state.Personal: A business administration major, he is the son of Skip and Mary Ann Weverbergh.<br />

DAVID AHONEN<br />
SS, So., 6-1, 205; Farmington<br />
2007: Ahonen was one of seven freshmen to earn a letter after<br />
playing in all but one regular-season game as a secondary backup<br />
and special teams regular. Ahonen collected seven of his<br />
tackles in kick coverage to rank among the team leaders. He collected<br />
a career-high three stops – including his first career tackle<br />
for loss – in the win at Utica. He made a pair of tackles against<br />
Hartwick and two more in the Cortaca Jug win. High School:<br />
A 2007 graduate of Victor Central School, Ahonen was coached by Jim Haugh. He<br />
was a two-time pick to the All-Greater Rochester Team and earned first-team all-state<br />
honors as a senior. Ahonen helped Victor to a Section V title in 2005 and also earned<br />
all-league honors in basketball and baseball. Personal: An accounting major, he is the<br />
son of Dave and Carolee Ahonen. He was named to the Empire 8 Presidents’ List following the fall semester.<br />
A third baseman on Ithaca’s NCAA playoff baseball team, Ahonen was named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year<br />
and earned all-region honors.<br />
