ITHACA, N.Y. —The Bombers won their fifth straight game,
scoring 28 second-half points to beat the #19 Alfred Saxons.
Junior quarterback Dan Juvan threw four touchdown passes
for the second straight game and senior running backs Jamie
Donovan and Alex Baez both ran for 100 yards as the Bombers
beat Alfred for the ninth time in 10 games.
Baez scored on a 71-yard run on the first play from scrimmage
in the second half – marking the second week in a row the
Bombers scored on their first play after halftime – and Juvan
capped Ithaca’s next drive with a 29-yard pass to junior wide
receiver Kyle Crandall.
Juvan threw touchdown passes of 15 and 59 yards to senior
wideout Brian Hogan as well as a 68-yard score to senior wide
receiver Patrick Heenehan.
Hogan’s second TD catch capped a two-play drive that
answered an Alfred drive that pulled the Saxons to within
28-25 on the first play of the fourth quarter.
Junior linebacker Matt Scalice led Ithaca with 12 tackles.
Senior strong safety Ryan Terlecki added 11 and a pair of
pass break-ups. Senior free safety Charlie Stephens finished
with nine tackles and two pass break-ups.
The Bomber defense held Alfred’s running back (who
entered the game as the nation’s 12th-leading rusher) to 52
yards on 20 carries. Junior linebacker John Scanlon and senior
nose tackle Phil Byers both collected two tackles for loss for
Ithaca. Byers, who was named Empire 8 Defensive Player of
the Week, also recovered a fumble.
Hogan caught a career-best eight passes for 147 yards.
Donovan gained 112 yards and Baez ran for 109. Those efforts
were the two highest single-game totals given up by Alfred
this year.

ITHACA, N.Y. —The Bombers regained possession of the
Cortaca Jug traveling trophy, rolling up 534 yards of total
offense in a 40-17 win over the visiting Red Dragons in front
of a sell-out Butterfield Stadium crowd of 9,700. The Bombers
scored on six of their seven possessions (not counting the gameending
drive with Ithaca kneeling to run out the clock).
Junior quarterback Dan Juvan threw for 306 yards and
senior running back Jamie Donovan totaled 131 yards and
three rushing touchdowns to lead a Bomber offense that tied a
school record with its fourth straight 40-point performance.
Donovan scored touchdowns to cap each of Ithaca’s first
three drives, scoring on an eight-yard run and two one-yard
carries. He raised his career total to 45 rushing touchdowns,
passing Jeff Wittman for Ithaca’s record.
Cortland’s first score came midway through the second
quarter; on Ithaca’s next drive, Juvan, who completed his first
seven passes and finished 12-of-16, scored on a 35-yard run.
Cortland scored 10 straight points to close within 26-17 and
forced a Bomber punt, but the Red Dragons’ next two drives
ended with turnovers inside the Ithaca five-yard line. Both
turnovers were caused by senior strong safety Ryan Terlecki
and both ended with touchdown passes from Juvan to junior
tight end Brian Weverbergh.
Terlecki intercepted a pass at the Ithaca two and the
Bombers drove 98 yards in eight plays with Weverbergh
catching a seven-yard touchdown. On Cortland’s next possession,
Terlecki forced the fumble at the Ithaca one; and
sophomore linebacker Tyler Baker recovered. Weverbergh’s
55-yard scoring catch capped a four-play drive. He finished
with a career-best 128 yards on five catches.
Ithaca’s offense converted a season-best 13 of 16 third
downs. Junior linebacker Matt Scalice led the Bomber defense
with 11 tackles; senior Mike Nowak added seven.
