2007 Review ITHACA COLLEGE
GAME 1 September 1
ITHACA 31, Lycoming 6
Ithaca (1-0) 10 7 7 7 — 31
Lycoming (0-1) 0 0 6 0 — 6
Williamsport, Pa.—The Bombers opened their season with a
win for the 27th time in 31 years, beating the host Lycoming
Warriors 31-6.
Junior quarterback Dan Juvan threw for a career-best 309
yards, completing 22 of 32 completions, and matched a careerhigh
with three touchdown passes. He threw a pair of secondhalf
scoring passes to senior Brian Hogan, who made his first
career start and had a career-best 148 receiving yards.
The Ithaca defense limited the Warriors to 74 yards through
the air and 16 rushing yards. Lycoming’s 90 yards of total
offense marked the first time Ithaca had held an opponent
under 100 yards since 2001.
Sophomore end Adam Drescher led the Bombers with
career-best totals of nine tackles and four tackles for loss
(including a seven-yard sack). Drescher, who was named
Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on
D3football.com’s Team of the Week, forced a fumble (that
the Bombers recovered inside their own 20), tipped a pass that
senior strong safety Ryan Terlecki intercepted to set up an
Ithaca touchdown and blocked the extra-point attempt after
Lycoming’s touchdown.
Senior linebacker Billy Struzzi and junior linebacker Matt
Scalice matched Drescher with nine tackles apiece. Struzzi
was in on two tackles for loss and Scalice recorded three.
Senior linebacker Mike Nowak finished with two tackles for
loss and recovered a Lycoming fumble.
Junior tight end Brian Weverbergh caught Juvan’s first
TD pass – a four-yard catch in the first quarter. Senior Jamie
Donovan ran for a game-high 48 yards, including a three-yard
touchdown. Freshman Dillon Dwyer kicked a 26-yard field
goal to open the game’s scoring and added extra points after
all four Bomber touchdowns.
Senior Nick Horowski made his debut as Ithaca’s punter
and averaged 37.5 yards on six kicks (one was a 25-yard kick
that stopped at the Warrior 11; his average on his other kicks
was 40.2 yards per punt).
Ithaca’s offensive line did not allow a sack as Ithaca
attempted 35 passes.
GAME 2 September 8
ITHACA 29, King’s 16
King’s (0-2) 0 10 0 6 — 16
Ithaca (2-0) 0 19 3 7 — 29
ITHACA, N.Y. —The #26 Bombers rallied for a 29-16 win
over visiting King’s in a game that included an 80-minute
lightning delay during the second quarter.
Senior running back Jamie Donovan ran for 144 yards and
a pair of touchdowns as Ithaca erased a 7-3 Monarchs lead.
King’s took a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter. The
Bombers kicked a field goal on their next possession – a
23-yard kick by freshman Dillon Dwyer – and regained possession
on an interception by junior cornerback Jason Chier
with 3:47 left in the half. Two plays later, lightning forced the
teams off the field and officials evacuated the stadium.
When play resumed, Ithaca needed just 2:44 to score a pair
of touchdowns. Donovan scored on a two-yard run and after
the Bombers forced a three-and-out from the King’s offense,
Chier ran the Monarchs’ punt back 75 yards for his first career
touchdown. He later added his second interception – a fourthquarter
pick in the end zone that ended the last King’s threat.
King’s closed to within six points with 8:42 left in regulation,
but Ithaca sophomore defensive end Adam Drescher
blocked the extra point and Donovan’s 34-yard run capped
Ithaca’s next drive.
Donovan’s 11th career 100-yard rushing effort made him
the second Bomber to record a 100-yard game in each of his
four seasons.
Junior quarterback Dan Juvan threw for 188 yards for
the Bombers, whose top receiver was junior tight end Brian
Weverbergh, with five catches for a career-best 104 yards.
Weverbergh became the first Ithaca tight end to gain 100
yards in a game since 1997.
Senior strong safety Ryan Terlecki paced Ithaca with 11
tackles. Junior linebacker Matt Scalice and senior linebacker
John Scanlon added 10 each. Scanlon’s total was a careerhigh,
as was his total of three tackles for loss.
Drescher collected eight tackles – two were for loss including
a sack – and senior linebacker Mike Nowak finished with
seven tackles and recovered a King’s fumble.
