The junior varsity football team is an important<br />
part of the overall program at Ithaca. The majority<br />
of Ithaca’s incoming freshman players<br />
are assigned to the junior varsity, which provides the<br />
newcomers a chance to learn the Ithaca <strong>College</strong> offense<br />
and defense.<br />

Jim Butterfield<br />
One of the winningest coaches in college football,<br />
Jim Butterfield spent 27 years as football<br />
coach and professor of physical education<br />
at Ithaca. During his career he won three national<br />
championships and earned national coach of the year<br />
honors twice. Butterfield, who passed away in 2002,<br />
was inducted into the <strong>College</strong> <strong>Football</strong> Hall of Fame<br />
in 1997.
