ITHACA COLLEGE Administration Section head THOMAS R. ROCHON President Thomas R. Rochon became the eighth president of Ithaca College on July 1, 2008. He holds a doctorate and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan, where he graduated with high distinction. Prior to his selection as the president of Ithaca College, Rochon served as executive vice president of the University of St. Thomas, a master’s comprehensive university in Minnesota, where he oversaw the university’s eight schools and colleges and, with the chief administrative officer, shared responsibility for the $150 million university budget. He worked to develop the academic vision of each unit and to set strategic directions; reorganized academic programs to create the School of Engineering; and helped launch a capital campaign centered on endowment support of students and faculty. An engaged civic leader, Rochon championed a university effort to strengthen community service and partnership activities in St. Paul, leading to Carnegie Foundation classification for community engagement. Along with his administrative responsibilities, he was a tenured professor in St. Thomas’s political science department. Rochon has an extensive history of accomplishments as an educator and academic administrator. Before his position at St. Thomas, as executive director of the Graduate Record Examinations program at the Educational Testing Service (ETS), Rochon was responsible for determining program policy under the oversight of the board and the ETS vice president for graduate and professional education. He guided the addition of analytical writing to the test, the first use of an essay in the GRE program; he also developed and implemented a program to empower universities to create their own test prep courses for graduate programs. He has held positions in the top leadership at prominent universities: dean of the School of Politics and Economics at Claremont Graduate University and assistant master of Dean Mathey College at Princeton University. He also held the post of assistant professor in the politics department at Princeton University for eight years. Rochon came to Ithaca College with a distinguished record of scholarly research. His work focuses on contemporary European politics and social movements in Europe and the United States. He is the recipient of numerous 5 84 Football 2008 grants and awards, including the Distinguished Scholarship Award of the Collective Behavior and Social Movements section of the American Sociological Association, and the Susan Louise Dyer Peace Fellowship at the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace at Stanford University. Rochon was also a Fulbright lecturer at Kobe University in Japan. His 1998 book, Culture Moves: Ideas, Activism, and Changing Values, received a Distinguished Scholarship Prize from the American Sociological Association and was named by Choice an outstanding academic book of 1998. He has given periodic lectures and seminars on Dutch politics for embassy personnel of the U.S. Department of State and has served on numerous advisory and other boards, including the President’s Advisory Board of the Universidad Anáhuac del Sur in Mexico City. Since childhood Rochon has been an avid baseball card collector. He developed an interest in older cards, including those dating from the 1880s, and is an active user of the eBay online auction site. Rochon is married with no children. His wife, Amber, until recently worked in a shelter that provided temporary accommodation to teenage girls; she is looking forward to continuing her work in the Ithaca community. KEN KUTLER Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ken Kutler is in his sixth year as Ithaca’s director of intercollegiate athletics and recreational sports. Kutler came to Ithaca after serving as director of athletics at two other Division III institutions: Frostburg State University (1978 to 1986) and Hartwick College (1986 to 2003). At Hartwick, he oversaw a 24-sport intercollegiate athletic program (including two sports that competed at the Division I level). He is a past president of the Empire 8 athletic conference. Kutler spent 10 years as women’s soccer coach at Hartwick (1986 to 1993 and again in 2001 and 2002) and guided the Hawks to five appearances in the NCAA championship tournament. He is a 1964 graduate of East Stroudsburg University, where he was an all-region soccer player. Kutler holds a master’s degree in education from Temple University and a doctorate in education from West Virginia.

The broadcast features senior Lee Small and junior Michael Polak. The pregame show starts 30 minutes before kickoff. All six home games will also be broadcast by VIC (106.5 FM). Both stations’ coverage is available over the Internet, and can be accessed at www.wicb.org/?page=listen and www.vicradio.org/. WICB also carries Sportstalk, a 60-minute program that airs Sundays at 6 p.m. Included in the call-in format of the show are game highlights, interviews and comprehensive coverage of Ithaca’s athletic program. ON TELEVISION All five Bomber home games will be televised by ICTV on Time Warner Cable’s channel 16. Bombers Football is cablecast live and re-shown on a tape-delayed basis at 7 p.m. the day of the game. It is produced by seniors Ryan Boyce and Allison Gainza. For the fourth year in a row, every Bomber home game will be streamed online. Fans can watch for free (a high-speed connection is required; dial-up connections will not work) through a link provided on the Ithaca website at www.bombers.ithaca.edu/schedules.asp?path=football. In addition, Time Warner Cable regularly broadcasts the Cortaca Jug game live in the Cortland, Ithaca and Syracuse markets as well as other selected areas throughout the state. Every Sunday at 9 p.m. ICTV viewers can watch The Gridiron Report, a live game-review program featuring coach Mike Welch. The Gridiron Report, which is produced by senior Becky Goodling, can be seen courtesy of cable companies throughout New York. ON TEAMLINE Bomber fans can hear the live play-by-play coverage of Ithaca football even when they can’t make it to the game. Just call TEAMLINE at 800-846-4700 and enter Ithaca’s four-digit access code (3945). Charge the call on your Visa or Mastercard credit card and listen to the action, broadcast live by WICB-FM, over the phone. Fans can listen as long as they like and pay only for the time they listen.
