Coeducational and nonsectarian, Ithaca is a<br />
nationally recognized comprehensive college<br />
of 6,650 students. Founded in 1892<br />
as the Ithaca Conservatory of Music, the school<br />
is located in Ithaca, N.Y., a city of 30,000 in the<br />
center of the Finger Lakes region-60 miles north<br />
of Binghamton and 60 miles south of Syracuse.<br />

FACILITIES<br />
Ithaca has close to 70 modern buildings, including<br />
science facilities with state-of-the-art laboratories,<br />
music center with concert and recital halls, health<br />
sciences center, and observatory plus 26 residence<br />
halls and two apartment complexes offering a variety<br />
of living accommodations. The library contains<br />
400,000 materials in various formats. Academic computing<br />
is available in over 15 general-access and over<br />
a dozen program-specific computer labs. Athletic facilities<br />
include a 2,600-seat gymnasium and a 5,000seat<br />
football stadium. The fitness center houses two<br />
smaller gyms as well as aerobics and exercise rooms<br />
with cardio machines, stair-steppers and treadmills.<br />
ADMISSION AND FINANCIAL AID<br />
Admission to Ithaca <strong>College</strong> is based on high school<br />
record, personal recommendations, SAT or ACT<br />
scores, and, for some programs, auditions or portfolios.<br />
Candidates should submit an application by<br />
February 1. Ithaca accepts the Common Application<br />

Over 85 percent of incoming students receive some<br />
form of financial assistance, totaling over $125 million<br />
in scholarships, grants, jobs, loans, and private aid.<br />
Applicants seeking financial aid must submit the FAF-<br />
SA (free application for federal student aid), available<br />
from high school guidance offices. The FAFSA form<br />
should be sent directly to the address indicated on the<br />
form; the priority submission deadline is February 1.<br />

INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS<br />
Ithaca teams have won three national championships<br />
in football and wrestling, two each in baseball,<br />
women’s crew and women’s soccer and one each in<br />
field hockey, gymnastics and softball. Bomber teams<br />
have also produced individual national champions in<br />
gymnastics, men’s and women’s swimming and diving,<br />
wrestling and track and field. Ithaca is sponsoring<br />
26 varsity sports during the 2008-09 school year—13<br />
for women and 12 for men —and will begin varsity<br />
competition in women’s golf in 2009-10.<br />
During the 2007-08 academic year, Bomber teams<br />
were a combined 260-129-1, (668), and 14 were represented<br />
in the NCAA playoffs. Ithaca won 11 Empire<br />
8 championships and finished 14th in the Division<br />
III NACDA Directors’ Cup standings. A total of 18<br />
Ithaca student-athletes earned all-American recognition<br />
or academic all-American recognition.<br />
NCAA PHILOSPOHY STATEMENT<br />
<strong>College</strong>s and universities in Division III place highest<br />
priority on the overall quality of the educational<br />
experience. In so doing, they seek to strengthen the<br />
integration of objectives and programs in athletics<br />
with academic and developmental objectives and to<br />
ensure the integration of athletes with other students.<br />
ATHLETIC TRAINING<br />
Injury prevention and care of Ithaca’s student-athletes<br />
are overseen by a staff of six full-time athletic trainers,<br />
plus a graduate assistant and over 65 undergraduate<br />
students in the athletic training major. Several fully<br />
equipped facilities are devoted to athletic training.<br />
