In November, Qatar Petroleumsubmitted a proposal to the UN to allow carbon credits to be earned from such initiatives. Equate shareholdersinclude Dow Chemical Company (42.5%), PIC (42.5%), Boubyan Petrochemical Company (9%) and QurainPetrochemical Industries Company (6%).SyriaThe Syrian cabinet has approved a recommendation by a government committee to import 95 Octane gasoline withEuropean specifications, which will be sold to consumers at S£50 ($1.09)/liter. A number of consumers had askedthe Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to supply high grade gasoline for their high performance vehiclesand a committee will shortly draw up the necessary specifications for the gasoline to be imported. According to theministry, 95 Octane gasoline will be first available in two retail stations owned by distribution company Mahruqat –one in Damascus and one in Aleppo. Syria’s gasoline consumption in 2010 is estimated at 2.35mn cu ms, of which23.4% is produced at the Homs refinery, 50% at the Banias refinery and the remainder of around 28% is imported.TunisiaPioneer Natural Resources Company, operator of the Cherouq concession and the Anaguid tract in southernTunisia, has reported three new discoveries with two wells drilled at Cherouq (El-Badr-3 and Cherouq-2) and oneat Anaguid (Mona-1). In the course of production tests, they yielded a total flow of around 10,000 barrels of oilequivalent per day from the Silurian sands. The three wells are due to be brought into production by early 2011.In view of these successes, the operator intends to drill two more appraisal wells this year. Pioneer describes theMona discovery as “significant” and says it opens up several exploration opportunities in the region of the Anaguidacreage.On the Cherouq concession, Pioneer Natural Resources has a 50% interest and its associate is the EntrepriseTunisienne d’Activites Petrolieres (ETAP–50%). On the Anaguid concession, ETAP has a 50% interest, Pioneer30% and Medco 20%.UAEDolphin Energy has completed construction of its 244km Taweelah-Fujairah pipeline (TFP). Built by Stroytransgaz,the pipeline will provide natural gas feedstock to two new power stations in Fujairah, Dolphin Energy said on 30November. The power stations, built by the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company (ADWEC) and includingthe Qidfa power and desalination facility, will be able to receive up to 1.6mn cfd of gas via the desert pipeline.Dolphin Energy official said that the construction milestone “strengthens our commitment to provide natural gasto all seven emirates of the UAE.” Dolphin is 51% owned by Abu Dhabi’s state investment vehicle MubadalaDevelopment Company, with partners Total and Occidental, holding 24.5% each.Volume 37 Issue 116
