LIFESTYLE<strong>COMMITTEE</strong>INTRODUCTION2009 had been a busy andfulfilling year for the LifestyleCommittee as we ushered intothe <strong>Club</strong>’s 100th year celebrations.Besides planning events to raisefunds towards the Centennialcelebrations, many new activitiesand programmes were introduced.We also seen a steady growth in ouron-going activities.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe Spring Festival Celebration held on 31 January at theopen area near the Koi Pond at Sports Complex attracted abig crowd filled with festive spirits. The event started with theGod of Wealth distributing bags of oranges to all memberspresent wishing them a prosperous year ahead. This wasfollowed by the award-winning show where the lion leaptand danced on poles, followed by a dragon dance, as wellas “Face-changing”, also known as “Bian Lian” in <strong>Chinese</strong>. Thefinale was the lion dance team with their impressive “CaiQing” performance accompanied by the drums. The eventended with the lion dance team presenting the scroll to the<strong>Club</strong>’s President.For the “Laps for Charity” event, the Ladies Sub-Committeeplayed their part by getting vendors to set up merchandiseand food stalls to raise funds for the <strong>Club</strong>’s nominatedbeneficiary, Dover Park Hospice.The Senior Members’ High Tea (SMHT) was held at Man ZhuCafé on 7, 8, 14 and 15 October. This annual affair attracted844 Senior members and their registered spouses. Memberswere treated to a sumptuous buffet spread accompanied bystrollers singing the evergreen songs.Ladies Sub-CommitteeCulinary workshops continued to rank top in 2009. ThePasta Lovers workshop conducted by Chef Roy of Delifrancereceived an overwhelming response, prompting us to openanother session. The on-site cooking demonstration by ourtenant, Tung Lok Classics drew an encouraging crowd of 38participants. Other workshops such as Local Snacks Making,Durian Sensation, Chef Recommendation and Tempura Feastwere also very well received.The Ladies Sub-Committee also organised an Aqua Fun &Fit programme, which attracted a healthy attendance of 27participants. In addition, the Beauty and Grooming workshopalso received a good turnout of participants.22Youth And Family Sub-CommitteeThere was great improvement for the Youth and Family Sub-Committee. The Children’s Ballet class was introduced with anencouraging number of participants. In addition, the Sectionalso organised two overland trips this year. The Durian Fiestatour held in June and the Desaru and Fireflies tour held inNovember attracted 41 and 37 participants respectively.
