TENNISSUB- <strong>COMMITTEE</strong>INTRODUCTIONThe focus of 2009 is on the youths,with many activities and competitionorganised with them in mind. To developtheir potential, John Seol Tennis AcademySystem was appointed as the <strong>Club</strong> Tenniscoaching provider.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe CSC Singles Championships attracted 41 membersthis year, ranging from nine to 71 years of age. Tan Wei Jinand Margaret Lee took the Men’s and Ladies’ Open titlesrespectively while Koh Chee Hua retained his Men’s Veterancrown. The top Under 17 Boys’ was Andrew Chan whileChristopher Mak won the first Boys’ Under 12 competition.To improve the standard of <strong>Club</strong> Tennis, John Seol TennisAcademy System (JSTAS) was appointed as the coachingprovider in March. JSTAS conducts programmes for studentswho aspire to achieve excellence through tennis and offersprogrammes specially tailored for students of all levels frombeginners to professional/top level players.Two teams were registered to take part in the STA Inter-clubSingles League as well as the Doubles Knockout while fourteams were sent for the STA Inter-club Doubles League.This was made possible due to the expanding base of<strong>Club</strong> players.To commemorate the <strong>Club</strong>’s Centennial Celebrations,the Tennis Sub-Committee invited five clubs with overone hundred years of existence for the Centennial TennisInvitational Tournament. Kohup Sports Pte Ltd kindlysponsored the CSC Centennial T-shirt as souvenir for allplayers. CSC came up runners-up.The CSC Tennis Team Challenge was held over a Sunday and36 players joined in the fun in the sun. The Section AnnualDinner preceded the Challenge and all Section Memberswere invited with their family members as a gesture ofappreciation for their continuous support.LOOKING AHEADThe Section hopes to build a strong base of new players torepresent the <strong>Club</strong> in the future. The Sub-Committee alsoplans to organise more competitions and friendly matchesfor the Section members to enjoy and build networks.APPRECIATIONThe vibrant Tennis scene in CSC can be attributed to theactive participation of all the players with their families’blessings and for that I am eternally grateful. I would also liketo thank the Tennis Sub-Committee for sharing the workloadin organising the wonderful activities.23 pairs took part in the CSC Doubles Championships overthree categories. Arnold Gay and Robyn Koh triumphed inthe Men’s Open and the champions for the Ladies’ Openwere Lee Pinn May and Margaret Lee.
