TABLE TENNISSUB- <strong>COMMITTEE</strong>INTRODUCTIONThe Section’s strength continues toincrease tremendously with the youngtrainees in the Table Tennis YouthProgramme. Our paddlers have alsoachieved good results in both nationaltournaments as well as internationalcompetitions.HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEARThe Table Tennis team played a friendly match with LangleyCenter Ping Pong <strong>Club</strong>, California on 17 February at theAuditorium which provided a good get-together andbuilding on the existing friendship between the two clubs.The <strong>Club</strong> hosted the CSC/STTA Table Tennis Championshipsfor the eighth consecutive year with the support of SingaporeTable Tennis Association (STTA) and Sin Ten Trading from30 May to 5 June. A new record was set this year, withparticipation for all the Singles events increasing by morethan 100% from year 2008 while the Veteran Team eventattracted 11 teams.The CSC Table Tennis Sub-Committee hosted the CentennialTable Tennis Charity Championships in conjunctionwith the <strong>Club</strong>’s Centennial Celebrations. A total of 12teams participated in this charity event. This memorabletournament was held from 6 to 7 June at the Auditorium.Special mention goes to Eric Fong Joon Ho, Cheong SookKok, Eng Kim Chooi and Rafael Soh for coming in Joint thirdand donated the winning prize money to the nominatedbeneficiary – Dover Park Hospice.The Annual Table Tennis Championships 2009 were heldfrom 20 to 29 October where 32 players aged rangingfrom as young as 8 to 75 years took part in this memorableChampionships. Special mention went to Toh Wee Bengwhere he defended his title in the Singles’ Open category.Cheong Soon Kok and his partner Michael Luai Poh Sooncrowned the title as Champion in the Doubles Open category.Loh Men Kuan came in as Champion in the Veterans’ Opencategory while the Novice’s Open category was won by AlvinKoh Teck Leong.LOOKING AHEADThe Section hopes to attract new players, both competitiveand social to join the <strong>Club</strong>, while building the youth basewith the Table Tennis Youth Programme. The Sub-Committeewill also work hard to ensure the 9th CSC/STTA TableTennis Championships remain viable and to increase theparticipation rate.APPRECIATIONI would like to thank Sin Ten Trading for their dedicatedsupport and our Patron Mr Ken Chan Pong Heng for hiscontribution to the Table Tennis Section. I would also like tothank my Sub-Committee members and staff from the Sports& Lifestyle Department for their consistent commitmentthroughout the year.
