Static Routing<br />

● Flooding Principle<br />

● Flooding of the network with copies of the data packet<br />

● Router propagates packet over all links, except over the incoming one<br />

● Characteristics<br />

● High reliability (in case of failure of single routers)<br />

● Meaningful for military applications (robustness)<br />

● But: large number of copied packets (overhead)<br />

● Possible loops are problematic<br />

● Hop counter (TTL)<br />

● List of all packets already sent<br />

● Usable as reference for the quality of routing algorithms (delay)<br />

● Used to support other routing algorithms, e.g., OSPF<br />
