8. Bushland Landscape Treatments.8.1 Principle.To conduct necessary garden maintenance in a manner which meetscustomer usage requirements and applicable bushland landscape standardsfor sustainable ongoing aesthetic presentation over its useful life.8.2 Guidelines.Environmentally sensitive and natural landscapes.• The use of plant materials is restricted to indigenous species in all bushlandand environmentally sensitive areas. Species of local provenance should beused, either through the collection of local propagation material or througha reputable supplier of local indigenous plant material. It is recommendedthat both Council employees and developers enter into contracts to growplants that meet their requirements, well in advance of their supply needs.• Where there is an interface between a more formal park environment andremnant bushland, indigenous plants should be used in a more formal,architectural style to integrate the two landscapes.• The use of jute mat densely planted with indigenous species, isrecommended as a landscape treatment along flood zones in creekcorridors and on drainage lines. This treatment is also recommended inminor erosion control works along creek corridors.• Plant discrete indigenous tree and shrub plantings along creek corridors inareas that have been sprayed, have pinned individual jute mat squaresand are staked and guarded.• In other areas, indigenous materials where possible be planted in wellprepared mulched beds. Plants should be staked and guarded wherewildlife are present.• All indigenous plant materials should be planted as tube stock, at densitiesconsistent with objectives.• Cells, environ-cells and seedlings may be used as a low- cost alternative totube stock where appropriate.• Plantings in bushland environments should be timed to ensure optimumsurvival and establishment rates.• Steep and rocky areas should be sprayed, mulched and planted in orderto minimise maintenance.• Vermin should be actively controlled.• The installation of silt barriers is required before construction begins on sitesadjacent to conservation areas.• Existing and emerging environmental and noxious weeds are to beremoved before planting and throughout the maintenance period.• Natural bush land areas are to be regularly inspected and maintained toprotect bush land for its scenic, historic and recreational value.• Natural bush land areas are to be maintained to ensure vegetation is keptclear of fence lines abutting private property.
