4.7 A relatively high-profile and successful trial at the Court of FirstInstance during the summer of 2004 resulted in the conviction of theex-managing director of a company in Hong Kong and his two accomplices,with terms of imprisonment of four to four and a half years for kiting nine L/Csvalued at HK$48 million. This case reinforced institutional as well as thegeneral public’s awareness of this common type of fraud, and received moderatepress coverage.
