provided a forum where local crime issues were discussed.9.5 Each district has its own crime characteristics due to geographical,demographic and developmental differences. Crimes which have drawnDFCCs’ attention in the report period included -• robbery, burglary and building security issues• juvenile and youth crime and problem of drug abuse• triad-related crimes and vice activities• quick cash crimes such as shop-theft and street deception• crimes committed by illegal immigrants and two-way exitpermit holdersCO-ORDINATION OF COMMUNITY EFFORTS9.6 DFCCs launched district fight crime publicity campaigns withfunds from District Councils and other sponsorship. In addition to the mainpublicity strategy, individual DFCCs also adopted special themes targeting thecrime characteristics of the district. Some DFCCs also conducted studies andsurveys on local crime problems.9.7 Campaign activities undertaken by DFCCs in the report period tooka variety of forms, including exhibitions, talks, seminars, variety shows,carnivals and various award schemes, contests/competitions, publication of fightcrime newsletters and distribution of fight crime publicity items. Visits toPolice command and control centres, Police stations, Correctional Servicesinstitutions, drug addiction treatment centres were also organised.LINK BETWEEN FCC AND DFCCs9.8 The FCC received and considered regular progress reports on thework of DFCCs. It also provided advice to DFCCs on their work. A briefreport of the matters discussed in FCC meetings was also prepared after eachmeeting and circulated to DFCCs for information. In addition, FCC membersattended DFCC meetings on a roster basis and brought district concerns back toFCC meetings for discussion. At Appendix III (c) is the roster of visits ofFCC Members to DFCCs in 2004. FCC Members also participated actively inpublicity activities organised by DFCCs. These arrangements not onlyenhanced the exchange of ideas and information on measures to combat crime,129
