Taras Dusanowskyj, in his openingcomments stressed that faith hasto be a way of life, a part of our everydaylives and not only somethingthat we practice on Sundays or feastdays but ignore for the rest of the week.Our faith must have concrete actions.If we believe in creation then—take stewardship of God’s creations;if we believe in God’s love then—love one another as God loves eachand every one of us; if we believe ina merciful God then—forgive oneanother as God forgives us … thenour faith becomes a “Faith in Action.”Fr. Taras presented three questionsto be addressed and discussedduring the workshops that followed: Name five of the most pressingproblems or challenges facing ourworld today. These can be personal,family or community — related,national or global in scope. What concrete actions can <strong>UCWLC</strong>members take to affect changeand address these challenges? What specific virtues and/or giftsdo <strong>UCWLC</strong> members need tofoster and develop in order towork effectively for the good andwitness authentically to the Gospelof Jesus Christ?A survey of the six groups showedthat the most pressing problems are,in order of importance and with groupcomments are:The Erosion of the Family Unit:attacks upon the family unit; declineof the definition of “family” and“marriage”; promotion of same-sexmarriage; lowering of age of consent;proliferation of abortion; argumentsin favour of legalizing prostitution;Outgoing President Olena Gedz making apresentation to President Luba Kowalchykdecline of family values; commonlawrelations; co-habitation beforemarriage and sexual immorality.Mass Media and the Internet: proliferationof open access to demeaningentertainment; pornography; degradationof women as seen in musicvideos and TV programs; programsportray people of faith in a dual lifestyle,i.e. “The Sopranos” are bothreligious characters (Catholic) andare also murderers; negative influenceof media—not conducive to ourbeliefs; the media, esp. the internet isovertaking the raising of our children.Secularization: the world has becometoo materialistic; rejection ofGod from our homes, schools andgovernment; Sunday shopping; soccerand other sporting events held on Sunday;the banning of the expressions offaith in the public domain such assaying “Merry Christmas.”Answers to question number two asto what actions <strong>UCWLC</strong> membersshould take will be presented at alater time as suggested ways of puttingour “Faith in Action.”As to what virtues and/or gifts do<strong>UCWLC</strong> members need to foster anddevelop in order to work effectivelyfor the good and witness authenticallyto the Gospel of Jesus Christ aspresented by the delegates are: respect,courage, patience, honesty,empathy, understanding, trust, good
