Guest lunch speaker, Irena Soltys,Chairperson of the Committeeagainst Human Trafficking, underscoredthe efforts of Canadiancharity, Children of Chornobyl(Help Us Help the Children andNove Pokolinya), in making potentialvictims in Ukraine awareof the dangers of ‘human trafficking’as well as in raising awarenessamong donors about thegrave international situation. Sheencouraged Congress participantsto understand that the fundamentalnurturing roles of woman andmother in Ukraine have been affecteddrastically by expandingsocial exploitation and their ownvictimization due to poor ecoheartedness,forgiving, hospitality,conviction, diligence, responsibility,compassion and tolerance.One group just said Love. Ifwe have Love, we have all of theabove. When asked by the Scribeswhich was the first commandmentof all, Jesus Christ answered:“The first commandmentof all is, ‘…The Lord our God isone God; And thou shalt love theLord thy God with thy wholeheart, and with thy whole soul,and with thy whole mind, and withthy whole strength.’ This is thefirst commandment. And the secondis like it, ‘Thou shalt love thyneighbour as thyself.’ There is nocommandment greater thanthese.” Mark 12:29-32.Nadjia Dusanowsky, Toronto EparchyTrafficking of womennomic conditions in Ukraine. Inturn, the breakdown in social relationshipin Ukraine is leading furtherto victimization of Ukrainianchildren and youth. She explainedhow important it is to encouragean active Christian conscientiousnessand not to allow ourselves toavoid recognizing the tragedy inour midst. Many women know about our organizationand now many want to experience it!Saskatoon Eparchy President Geraldine Koban (right) receiving MembershipTrophy from Toronto Eparchy President Olia Karaim for the most new membersGloria Leniuk, Eparchy of Saskatoon Life Membership Award Winners 2007 OLGA KOTELKO, a UCWLCmember for 51years, wasborn in 1919 inSaskatchewanand became awife, mother oftwo daughtersand teacher.She hasheld positions while at the NewWestminster Cathedral fromBranch President, Eparchial CorrespondingSecretary, NationalVice President and a Past Presidentof the Cultural and EducationCommittee.She has also helped out onmany eparchial publications, includingwritingarticles, and on congresses andconventions.In 2005, she transferred to St.Mary’s, where she serves on theSunshine and Fundraising Committees.After she retired from teaching,she took up competitive softball,at age 70, and later trackand field, winning almost 500medals and setting more than100 records in masters competitionsworldwide.She continues to attendUCWLC meetings and contributesto Sunday pastry, bakes Easterbread and helps make perogiesand cabbage rolls.
