High Energy Real-Time Radiographic Imaging Real Time Radiography can be defined as nondestructive radiographic testing where an image of the test object is viewed concurrently with the irradiation. This method of inspection is relatively new to nondestructive testing but is an outgrowth of fluoroscopy, which has been used in the industrial field for many years. The technology has made great leaps, with improvements in image processing, development of new fluors and camera designs. FIGURE 6-1. Typical real-time x-ray imaging system. page 53 Imaging Heads - In general, high energy real time radiography imaging heads (cameras) have three main components, the imaging screen, lens system and low-light video camera. The imaging screen directly converts x-rays into low-level light, usually in the yellow/green part of the visible spectrum. The lens system contains one or more large aperture lenses that couple the light to the low-light video camera. Varian Linatron applications
