El Salvador<br />

The highest wages in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Coca</strong>-<strong>Cola</strong>/SABMiller value<br />

chain are earned by those working in <strong>the</strong> formal<br />

sector, including employees at <strong>the</strong> sugar mills, those<br />

who work at <strong>the</strong> bottling company and owners of<br />

depositos (distributi<strong>on</strong> warehouses in rural and urban<br />

areas). These employees s<strong>how</strong>ed a very healthy<br />

purchasing power, often above <strong>the</strong> nati<strong>on</strong>al average.<br />

Retail owners also earn a relatively high average<br />

m<strong>on</strong>thly income, <strong>on</strong>e that is higher than <strong>the</strong> nati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

mean income. Sugarcane workers earn average<br />

incomes that are just above <strong>the</strong> minimum wage and<br />

about three times rural basic nutriti<strong>on</strong>al basket (per<br />

capita). Sugar producers and sugar mill workers earn<br />

incomes above <strong>the</strong> sugar refinery statutory minimum<br />

wage. However, some distributors, retail employees<br />

Zambia<br />

Workers in <strong>the</strong> formal sector c<strong>on</strong>sistently earn above<br />

<strong>the</strong> poverty line, minimum wage and mean income.<br />

Zambian Breweries staff, micro-distributi<strong>on</strong> center<br />

(MDC) owners and small-scale farmers receive<br />

some of <strong>the</strong> highest incomes. Sugarcane harvesters,<br />

temporary workers, MDC employees and truck<br />

drivers earn <strong>the</strong> least.<br />
