The present Thesis is a fruitful result of the continuous collaboration with the supervisor
A. Fujimori and the following excellent co-workers.
Long-years discussion with the supervisor A. Fujimori, who has read the Thesis
carefully and has given numerous valuable comments, is the backbone of this Thesis. T.
Mizokawa and K. Kobayashi have instructed the author the photoemission spectroscopy
and have given him continuous advice since he started the present work. He thanks
the colleagues in the laboratory: J.-Y. Son, J. Okamoto, J. Matsuno, J. Okabayashi,
T. Yoshida, Y. Ishikawa, K. Okazaki, H. Ishii, T. Nambu, N. Harima, H. Wakazono, A.
Ino, M. Satake, O. Rader, T. Tsujioka, A. E. Bocquet, T. Saitoh, and K. Morikawa.
The Yb1−xLuxB12 polycrystals were grown by F. Iga and M. Kasaya at Tohoku
University. The Yb1−xLuxB12 single crystals were grown by N. Shimizu, S. Hiura, F.
Iga, and T. Takabatake at Hiroshima University. Correspondence with F. Iga has often
been crucial to proceed the present study. Fe1−xCoxSi and FeSi1−xAlx polycrystals were
developed by A. Ohno, T. Tonogai, and H. Takagi at University of Tokyo.
The photoemission set up at the Photon Factory, which was used in the study of
Chapters 3, 4, and 5, was constructed by S. Suga, A. Kimura, T. Matsushita, M.
Tsunekawa (Osaka University), A. Sekiyama (University of Tokyo), H. Namatame (Hiroshima
University), H. Ishii, T. Miyahara, and T. Hanyu (Tokyo Metropolitan University).
On measurement, the above members and T. Muro, S. Ueda, T. Iwasaki,
S. Imada (Osaka University), K. Mamiya (Hiroshima University), E. Shigemasa, A.
Kakizaki, K. V. Kaznacheyev (Photon Factory), J. Matsuno, T. Konishi, T. Yoshida
(University of Tokyo), and M. Nakamura (Nara University of Education) supported the
author. The high-resolution measurements (Chapters 5 and 6) were performed at Hiroshima
University, using the set up improved by Y. Takeda, M. Arita, K. Shimada, H.
Namatame, and M. Taniguchi. Highest-level photoemission measurements and stimulating
discussion day after day at Hiroshima University, which leads in the physics
of Kondo insulators, were the highlights of the present research. The set up for the
measurements in Chapters 3, 4, 7, and 8 was constructed and has been improved at
University of Tokyo by M. Nakamura, A. Sekiyama, and K. Kobayashi. The newly
