TIFFIN MOTORHOMES –ALLEGRO RED® Chapter 13 ROUTINE MAINTENANCEIn certain states, the Highway Patrol routinely weighs motor homes tocheck for overloaded axle weights. Therefore, there are many goodreasons for assuring that the motor home (Figure 13-8) is properlyloaded and not overloaded—this can be accomplished through aproper weighing of the fully loaded motor home.One can find various places that have certified public scales whereone’s motor home can be weighed. For example, moving andstorage company lots, farm suppliers with grain elevators, gravel pits,recycling companies, and large-scale commercial-truck stops aresome of the possible locations for weighing the motor home. Onecan also check the Yellow Pages of the telephone book for “scales –public” or “weighers” to determine other locations for weighing themotor home.Figure 13-8. Allegro RED Motor Home13-25
TIFFIN MOTORHOMES –ALLEGRO RED® Chapter 13 ROUTINE MAINTENANCEA brief overview of the procedure for weighing the motor home is shown in the following figure:Note 1: From the tire manufacturer’s load and inflation tables or the sidewall of the tires mounted on the motor home.Note 2: If the motor home has duals, read dualcapacity from the tire and multiply by 2 (two) toobtain dual-assembly load carrying capacity.More detailed information can be found in themanufacturer’s literature associated with the chassisand/or the tires provided with the motor home. Forexample, the following table (Figure 13-9) illustratesthe inflation pressures for Michelin tires as afunction of the loads per position for a specifiedspeed of the motor home. In this manner, one candetermine the appropriate inflation pressures foreach of the tires on the motor home, as a functionof the loads they are to carry on the trip(s) the motorFigure 13-8.
