DAN – Your Dive Safety AssociationThe Diver Identification System, supported by DAN Donors and DANCorporate Sponsors, with Disney / The Living Seas as the principal supporter,evolved from DAN’s popular Charter Boat Identification System.The revolutionary system now helps dive leaders track their divers at allopen-water sites and on charter boats.The system consists of one or two DAN Tag Boards each in red or whitewith 12 numbered DIDS Tags capable of tracking up to 24 divers at thesame time.The system works like this: at the beginning of each dive trip, the divemasterassigns each diver an individually numbered DIDS Tag. Beforediving, the diver removes the tag and clips it to his or her buoyancy compensationdevice. After the dive, the diver unclips the tag and returns it tothe board for crosschecking by the dive leader. The DIDS System in conjunctionwith another diver roll call procedure will help ensure that nodiver is left in the water.The DIDS is free of charge. Either way,Instructors can provide their students with essential dive insurance thatall open-water students should have.With the DANStudent Membershipp ro g ram DiveInstructors canp rovide theirstudents withessential divei n s u rance that allopen-water studentsshould have .When you enroll your students, be sure to give your students theirInsurance Record and DAN membership application. Include your DANnumber on the roster so you can earn valuable DAN points. DAN – Your Dive Safety AssociationInternational DANInternational DAN (IDAN) is comprised of five independent DAN organizationsbased around the world to provide expert emergency medicaland referral services to regional diving communities. International DANoffices include: DAN America, DAN Europe, DAN South East Asia-Pacific, DAN Southern Africa and DAN Japan. The President of DANAmerica represents DAN America to International DAN. The future goalsof IDAN include standardization of services and member benefits, greatercooperation in areas of research, education and sharing of dive injurydata.The InternationalDepartment at DANAmerica handlesissues related tothe DAN missionand strategic goalsin areas outside theU.S. but still withinthe DAN Americaregion.The International Department at DAN America handles issues related tothe DAN mission and strategic goals in areas outside the U.S. but stillwithin the DAN America region (North and South America). Its primaryfocus at this time is increasing DAN’s presence in Latin America but atsome time in time that may expand to include Canada.To help reach the increasing diving community in Latin America, DAN’sInternational Department provides promotional, membership and trainingmaterial in Spanish and Portuguese. Also, in 2001, DAN created a dedicatedSpanish / Portuguese language emergency hotline (+1-919-684-9111) and a network of chambers and dive physicians to serve all ofCentral and South America. DAN also has sections on the DAN websitein Spanish (www.
