DAN – Your <strong>Dive</strong> Safety Associati<strong>on</strong>Internati<strong>on</strong>al DANInternati<strong>on</strong>al DAN (IDAN) is comprised of five independent DAN organizati<strong>on</strong>sbased around the world to provide expert emergency medical<strong>and</strong> referral services to regi<strong>on</strong>al diving communities. Internati<strong>on</strong>al DANoffices include: DAN America, DAN Europe, DAN South East Asia-Pacific, DAN Southern Africa <strong>and</strong> DAN Japan. The President of DANAmerica represents DAN America to Internati<strong>on</strong>al DAN. The future goalsof IDAN include st<strong>and</strong>ardizati<strong>on</strong> of services <strong>and</strong> member benefits, greatercooperati<strong>on</strong> in areas of research, educati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> sharing of dive injurydata.The Internati<strong>on</strong>alDepartment at DANAmerica h<strong>and</strong>lesissues related tothe DAN missi<strong>on</strong><strong>and</strong> strategic goalsin areas outside theU.S. but still withinthe DAN Americaregi<strong>on</strong>.The Internati<strong>on</strong>al Department at DAN America h<strong>and</strong>les issues related tothe DAN missi<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> strategic goals in areas outside the U.S. but stillwithin the DAN America regi<strong>on</strong> (North <strong>and</strong> South America). Its primaryfocus at this time is increasing DAN’s presence in Latin America but atsome time in time that may exp<strong>and</strong> to include Canada.To help reach the increasing diving community in Latin America, DAN’sInternati<strong>on</strong>al Department provides promoti<strong>on</strong>al, membership <strong>and</strong> trainingmaterial in Spanish <strong>and</strong> Portuguese. Also, in 2001, DAN created a dedicatedSpanish / Portuguese language emergency hotline (+1-919-684-9111) <strong>and</strong> a network of chambers <strong>and</strong> dive physicians to serve all ofCentral <strong>and</strong> South America.
