PUBLIC
RELATIONS
“definitely the right choice for me”
by Catherine Holt
Public Relations
Fundraising Assistant, Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation
Campbellford, Ontario
The Public Relations post-graduate
program was definitely the right choice
for me. The training in media relations,
key messaging, fundraising (i.e. donor
relations) and event management has all
been very valuable in my job with a
hospital foundation.
As a fundraiser, donor relations are a
core responsibility and one of the best
parts of my job. The instruction in this
area, along with the advice we received
from career professionals, really helped
me to decide what field of work I wanted
to pursue. Much of the program is
focused on relationship building which
has a huge impact on any career in
public relations.
I loved Loyalist because its size really
promoted a feeling of belonging. The
professors are highly educated and
experienced in their fields of expertise,
and this translates down to the students.
Loyalist has a great atmosphere and the
PR program is fun from start to finish. This
really encourages the learning process.
My advice to anyone considering the
PR program is GO FOR IT! If you love
people, want to have fun in your job, are
looking for more than one avenue of
employment and are brave enough to put
yourself out there, then the Public
Relations program is for you. It opened up
a new world for me and my fellow
graduates. It will for you too.
Loyalist Public Relations Students Host Workshop
Series for Community
Students of the Loyalist College post-graduate Public Relations program
hosted a series of eight media relations workshops for members of the
community. “The Community Media Workshop Series will provide an
excellent opportunity for our post-grad Public Relations students to share
their knowledge in a real-world setting,” said Professor Kerry Ramsay.
