Skimmers are not always the criticalpiece of operating equipment during recovery operations.Hydraulic submersible, positive-displacement and axial flow pumps are available in the ESSMSystem. The pumps can transfer oil directly from tanks to barges or lightering ships or can beplaced in the spilled oil to recover oil. The DOP-250 pump can pump the heaviest crude in coldweather at very high rates. Figure 5-19 shows the pump’s performance curves.5-24
