Art History 251 <strong>and</strong> ArtHistory 252 are the fundamental courses for the discipline. Survey <strong>of</strong> the History <strong>of</strong> Art II - (GER 4A, 5) Spring (3,3) The study <strong>of</strong> European <strong>and</strong>American art from the Renaissance to the present. Illustrated lectures <strong>and</strong> readings.BiologyThe program <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Biology provides majors with a sound introduction to theprinciples <strong>of</strong> biology <strong>and</strong> an appreciation for the diversity <strong>and</strong> complexity <strong>of</strong> living things. Thedepartment also provides majors with a breadth <strong>and</strong> a depth <strong>of</strong> training <strong>and</strong> a variety <strong>of</strong>approaches to the study <strong>of</strong> life, while allowing maximum flexibility in the development <strong>of</strong>programs consistent with the interests <strong>and</strong> needs <strong>of</strong> individual students.Students who do not plan to major in biology, but wish to meet the GER 2B requirement in thisdiscipline, may wish to register for Biology 100. Other options include: Biology 103, 105, 106,108, 110, 220/221, <strong>and</strong> 225/226. Biology 220/221 <strong>and</strong> 225/226 are intended for students whointend to major in the science <strong>and</strong> pre-health pr<strong>of</strong>essional students. These courses are difficultwithout a good working knowledge <strong>of</strong> high school biology <strong>and</strong>, especially for Biology 220, alsohigh school chemistry.Students who plan to major in Biology should register for Biology 220/221 in the first semester,followed by Biology 225/226 the second semester. Although it is not essential, a student maychoose to register for Chemistry 103/103L (General Chemistry with laboratory) concurrently withBiology 220/221, but the required four-course Chemistry sequence should be begun no later thanthe third semester. Majors may wish to take Biology 205 (General Botany) <strong>and</strong> Biology 206(General Zoology) in the second year because these two courses are prerequisites for some30
