<strong>Course</strong> <strong>Selection</strong> <strong>Guidebook</strong> – Fall 2011All programs are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools <strong>of</strong> BusinessInternational (AACSB International).Individual Program <strong>of</strong> StudyAt <strong>William</strong> & <strong>Mary</strong>, our Undergraduate Business Program <strong>of</strong>fers an experiential <strong>and</strong>individualized approach to business education. Each student designs an Individual Program <strong>of</strong>Study (IPS) that is unique to their particular goals <strong>and</strong> strengths. Our introductory foundationsemester includes a week-long interdisciplinary simulation with an emphasis on team dynamics.To promote breadth <strong>of</strong> study in business disciplines, our curricula include a primary major with aconcentration in another business discipline.The Mason School <strong>of</strong> Business strongly encourages study abroad. Our curriculum has beendesigned to allow students to study abroad in the spring <strong>of</strong> their second or third year. Studentsinterested in studying abroad should contact the Undergraduate Business Program <strong>and</strong> the GlobalEducation Office in the Reves Center for International Studies for more information.Undergraduate Business Program AdmissionAll students who wish to major in Business (whether as a primary or secondary major) must applyfor competitive admission to the Mason School <strong>of</strong> Business. Prerequisites for admission to theMason School <strong>of</strong> Business include the following: junior st<strong>and</strong>ing (54 academic credit hours) with aminimum attained Grade Point Average (GPA) <strong>of</strong> 2.0 <strong>and</strong> the following pre-requisite courses:Specific Pre-requisite <strong>Course</strong>s: Introductory Microeconomics (ECON 101 or 151) Introductory Macroeconomics (ECON 102 or 152) Introductory Calculus (MATH 108, 111, 112, 131 or 132) Introductory Statistics (BUAD 231, ECON 307, PSYC 301, MATH 106, MATH 351,SOCL 353 or KINE 394) Principles <strong>of</strong> Accounting (BUAD 203)The Undergraduate Business curriculum is designed so that most students will begin the programin the fall semester <strong>of</strong> their junior year. Thus, students normally apply for admission to the MasonSchool <strong>of</strong> Business during the spring semester <strong>of</strong> their sophomore year for admission in thefollowing fall semester. To accommodate special circumstances such as study abroad, transferringstudents, <strong>and</strong> students who have met all the entrance requirements, the Mason School <strong>of</strong> Businessalso accepts applications in the fall semester for admission in the following spring semester.Admission is competitive <strong>and</strong> the entering class is selected except as specified below on the basis<strong>of</strong> the applicant’s overall <strong>William</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Mary</strong> GPA at the time <strong>of</strong> application. Transfer students whohave completed twelve or more semester hours at <strong>William</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Mary</strong> prior to the time <strong>of</strong>application will be evaluated on their attained <strong>William</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Mary</strong> GPA. Transfer students who areeligible to apply to the Majors Program who have completed fewer than twelve semester hours at<strong>William</strong> <strong>and</strong> at the time <strong>of</strong> application will be evaluated on their attained GPA for all previousuniversity work. Because the competitive admission process depends upon the number <strong>of</strong>qualified applicants <strong>and</strong> the number <strong>of</strong> positions available within the Business School, theminimum GPA <strong>of</strong> admitted students is not a fixed number.The deadlines for enrolled <strong>William</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Mary</strong> students to apply to the Majors Program areFebruary 15 for fall admission <strong>and</strong> October 1 for spring admission. Applications from enrolled<strong>William</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Mary</strong> students received after the application deadline will be considered only if the82
