ResultsAsessment in Higher Education – A study conducted at SEEUInterview ResultsInterviews provide in-depth information about a particular research issue orquestion especially to elicit information about attitudes. They are very commonlyused in education because they are a powerful means of both obtaining informationand gaining insights. Some excerpts of the interview are presented below:R=Researcher P=ParticipantPart 1Q1. Have you received any training in implementing continuous assessment(CASS) in your classes?P3: I have attended an intensive training organized by SEEU Quality research officeand one of the training sessions was continuous assessment.P4: In fact, I am attending training sessions at SEEU and I believe that one of thetopics is on continuous assessment.This shows that teachers have either received training on continuous assessment orare currently being trained at SEEU.Part 2Q2: Do you feel that you are in a position to implement continuous assessment pro<strong>per</strong>ly?P5: Yes, I strongly believe that I can assess my students pro<strong>per</strong>ly. This is my tenthyear of employment at SEEU and I know which assessment methods are appropriatefor which groups of learners.Q3. What problems do you encounter in the implementation of CASS?P11: We as teachers know that there is always something difficult when we teachbut mixed-ability classes.P 13: In my opinion continuous assessment requires a lot of time especially assessingclass participation is very difficult.Generally, the results of all interview show that teachers, participants of thisstudy are of the opinion that the move from traditional to contemporary teachingincluding continuous assessment was positive and most of them all teachers areself-confident in assessing their students continuously.Questionnaire resultsThe students’ attitudes towards continues assessment were investigated througha questionnaire which contains seventeen statements. The questionnaires ask thestudents, participants of this study to express their opinions about continuousassessment in their courses and assessment methods their teachers use.51Volume 1 - Number 1 - 2013
