Asessment in Higher Education – A study conducted at SEEUimproving teaching and learning. If we teach our students how to do self-evaluationthen we can contribute to a better learning.Regarding item 5 “The lecturer gives us feedback on tests and assignments withina week” forty-eight <strong>per</strong>cent (48%) reported that their teachers always give themfeedback, ten <strong>per</strong>cent (10%) often do it and twelve <strong>per</strong>cent (12%) never do it. “Ilearn a lot from my lectures” is item 6 and fifty-five <strong>per</strong>cent (55%) of the participantsalways learn from them, thirty-five sometimes (35%) sometimes learn from themand ten <strong>per</strong>cent (10%) never learn from them.In regard to item 7 “I learn a lot from feedback provided by my lecturer”, seventyone<strong>per</strong>cent (71%) reported that they always learn from it, fifteen <strong>per</strong>cent (15%)sometimes learn from it and fourteen <strong>per</strong>cent (14%) never learn from it. On theother hand, regarding “the importance of lecturer’s assessment”, item 8, fifty-seven<strong>per</strong>cent (57%) of the participants reported that they always understand it, twentyone<strong>per</strong>cent (21%) sometimes understand it and twenty-two <strong>per</strong>cent (22%) neverunderstand it.Regarding item 9 “I enjoy learning through continuous assessment”, seventythree<strong>per</strong>cent (73%) of the participants reported that they enjoy it, sixteen <strong>per</strong>cent(16%) sometimes enjoy it and eleven <strong>per</strong>cent (11%) never enjoy it. On the otherhand, for item 10 “The lecturers repeat aspects of the lecture that learners didnot understand”, sixty-eight <strong>per</strong>cent (68%) of the participants reported that theirteachers always do it, only nine <strong>per</strong>cent (95%) said that their teachers sometimesdo it and twenty-three (23%) reported that they never do it.Item 11 asked the participants if “the lecturers help learners who ex<strong>per</strong>iencedifficulties/ problems in the subject” and eighty <strong>per</strong>cent (80%) of the participantsstated that they always do it, seven <strong>per</strong>cent (7) often do it and twelve <strong>per</strong>cent (12%)stated that their teachers never do it. Regarding item 12 “The pace of lectures isappropriate to my needs” fifty – six <strong>per</strong>cent (56%) of the participants reported that thepace of lectures is always appropriate to their needs, seven (7%) <strong>per</strong>cent declared that itis often is thirty-seven (37%) stated that the pace of lectures is never appropriate to theirneeds. For item 13” Learners provide clear outcomes for each learning unit”, fifty-two<strong>per</strong>cent stated that they always do, fifty-two <strong>per</strong>cent (52%) stated that they sometimesdo and twenty - seven <strong>per</strong>cent (27%) that they never do it.Item 14 “Course programs clearly specify the assessment methods (e.g.tests, assignments, group-work, class-work, projects) to be used” received thehighest score, one hundred <strong>per</strong>cent (100%) where the participants stated that atthe beginning of the course they are familiar with the assessment methods usedin a certain course.
