COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

THE SPRINGS (SONOMA VALLEY) WORK PROGRAM
• Began the design engineering and right-of-way acquisition for Stage 2 of Hwy 12 improvements (See Goal 2).
• Provided continued financial assistance to, and participated in, Sonoma Valley Economic Development Partnership (See Goals 3 &
4).
• Launched the Commercial Rehabilitation Loan Program to support façade improvements and rehabilitation of commercial storefronts
serving approximately ten businesses in year one including the opening of two new businesses (See Goals 1, 3 & 4).
• Began a graffiti abatement program in partnership with the Sheriff’s Office which has established a new graffiti hotline number (See
Goal 6).
• Initiated the planning process for the development of a Springs Central Hub Plaza (See Goals 1, 3 & 4).
• Began a litter abatement program along the corridor in partnership with Becoming Independent and the Sonoma Valley Chamber of
Commerce through the Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway Program (See Goal 6).
• Initiated the planning process for a new directional signage and wayfinding signage program for the project area (See Goals 1 & 2).
GOALS FY 10-11:
1. Implement the Springs Redevelopment Advisory Committee’s initiatives in the new Springs Strategic Plan.
2. Support Sonoma County Department of Transportation and Public Works and Caltrans to complete Highway 12 improvements.
3. Pursue economic development and affordable housing opportunities.
4. Shift economic development priorities to activity hubs identified in the Strategic Plan along the Highway 12 corridor.
5. Affordable housing priorities will focus on preservation of existing housing stock through housing rehabilitation programs.
6. Assist in the annual Springs Clean-up activities.
GOALS FY 11-12:
1. Support The Springs Redevelopment Advisory Committee (RAC) implementation initiatives of new Springs Strategic Plan.
2. Support Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) and Caltrans to complete Highway 12 improvements.
3. Pursue economic development efforts to increase job opportunities for area residents.
4. Seek out new affordable housing opportunities by outreaching to affordable housing developers.
5. Shift economic development priorities to smaller mixed use, in-fill projects in Boyes Boulevard area following Highway 12
improvements.
6. Support and promote affordable housing priorities that will focus on preservation of existing housing stock through housing
rehabilitation programs.
7. Support the removal of blight and ongoing clean-up activities for The Springs commercial corridor.
8. Identify and establish off-street parking alternatives along the commercial corridor.
9. Complete the plan amendment process for a three year extension of the plan.
10. Develop an area action plan for The Springs Central Hub, and take steps to leverage the creation of a potential public space
related to the closure of Boyes Blvd.
11. Develop a directional and wayfinding signage program for the Springs Redevelopment Project Area.
12. Seek out and pursue community development efforts that promote improved health and education opportunities in the Springs
community.
