City of Guelph2008 Annual ReportClosed Eastview Road Landfill Sitec) chemical oxygen demand (COD);d) total kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN);e) phenols; andf) iron.Semi-annual samples were collected for the remaining Model Sewer Use by-law parameters listed in Table 1of the C of A, and for Municipal/Industrial Strategy for Abatement (MISA) parameters listed in Table 2 of theC of A.3.2 Model Sewer Use By-Law Parameters3.2.1 Main Pumping StationThe main pumping station results are discussed below. Table 1 provides the average leachate flow from thesystem in 2008. As shown, the average monthly leachate flow from the main pumping station was 245.5m 3 /d, with the maximum and minimum flows being 378.9 m 3 /d and 142.9 m 3 /d respectively.Table 1. The results show that all parameters were within the ModelSewer Use by-law limits for every parameter on every sampling occasion, with one exception. As well, thewater quality results are similar to those observed historically. In the fall full MISA sampling event anapparent exceedance of cyanide was noted. Historically, as well as during the full MISA sampling event inthe spring, cyanide has always been reported as below the laboratory detection limit. The reported value of22 mg/L in the fall for cyanide is therefore considered to be anomalous, as no past detections have beenrecorded. This anomalous result will be reassessed after the full MISA spring sampling event in 2009.(111414_2ra_apr29-09_city_of_guelph.doc) - 5 -
