It is nowhoused in an impressive modern buildinglocated between the National Library and theUniversity campus. The high quality of theCentre’s research was acknowledged in the 2008Research Assessment Exercise, rating 35% of itsoutput as world-leading and a further 45% asinternationally excellent.Gregynog HallThe University of Wales runs a residential studycentre in a former mansion surrounded by750 acres of gardens and woodlands. It canaccommodate up to 100 guests and is primarilyused by departments for short field and studycourses or conferences.IBERSThe Institute of Biological, Environmental andRural Sciences (IBERS) is a world class researchand education centre at Aberystwyth University.IBERS is an internationally recognised centre ofexcellence and is the students’ choice for the studyof biological, environmental and rural sciences.The Institute’s research, teaching and supportstaff conduct basic, strategic and applied researchin biology from the level of genes and othermolecules to the impact of climate change andbio-energy on sustainable agriculture and landuse. They also provide high level research and skillstraining. There is formal collaboration with theCollege of Natural Sciences in Bangor University.By linking the processes and results of ourscientific investigations to the work of socialscientists in Aberystwyth and Bangor we areable to inform policy on the rural economy andon rural communities.Information ServicesThe University has established an integratedInformation Service to provide library,computing and audio-visual services:Library FacilitiesThe Hugh Owen Library houses the University’smain collections in the humanities, social andeconomic studies, earth and biological sciencesand law. The Thomas Parry Library houses textsrelating to information sciences and agriculture.Mathematical and physical sciences, computerscience, and education have immediate accessto their own specialist collections.The University’s libraries house more than845,000 volumes and more than 10,000 differentperiodical titles.
