Aberystwyth University - ABWTH A40How to Apply21When should I apply?There are very few formal deadlines for postgraduate courses at Aberystwythbut there are deadlines if you wish to be considered for funding.In most subjects it is advisable to apply before the end of Februaryif you wish to be considered for funding. If you are self-financed it isadvisable to apply before the end of July. All UK and EU applicants forscience subjects should in the first instance contact the relevant academicdepartment regarding availability of project studentships and deadlinesfor applications.Due to the special needs of parents with children, these applicants areadvised to apply before the end of February.What happens after I apply?If your application is complete (as per Submitting Your Application) it willbe sent to the relevant Academic Department. If it is not complete (forexample, without references) it will not be processed and will remain inthe <strong>Postgraduate</strong> Admissions Office until all documentation and referencesare received. In these instances we contact you requesting the missingdocuments.Applications are considered by departments. You will be informed within6* weeks of receipt of your application whether:You have been offered a place, orYou have been invited for an interview, orWe are unable to offer you a place.*Does not include any possible delays due to postal strikes.The offer letterIf you receive an offer letter, please check any conditions that are specified.The offer letter will state the conditions you need to meet before youregister, the cost of your course, and the date on which it starts. Pleasesend us notification of all appropriate results as soon as you receive them.Accepting, declining anddeferring your placePlease complete the reply form enclosed with the offer letter and returnit to the <strong>Postgraduate</strong> Admissions Office within 6 weeks. Do not worry ifyou cannot meet the conditions in your offer by this date, at this stage wesimply need to know if you intend to take up your place.You may request to defer your place until a later date (one or two yearsdepending on the department), if for personal reasons you are unable totake up your place or are unable to meet the conditions of your offer bythe registration date.Completing the Admissions ProcessNon-EEA applicantsWhen all the conditions of the application have been met, non-EEAapplicants applying for full-time programmes will be issued a Confirmationof Acceptance of Studies (CAS) number they can use to obtain a studentvisa to enter the United Kingdom. CAS is used by the United KingdomBorder Agency’s new online system [see www.aber.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyintheUK] and replaces visa letters. It is the applicant’s responsibilityto apply for his or her student visa at the relevant British Embassy or HighCommission.AccommodationAll the conditions of your offer must be fulfilled prior to bookingaccommodation in University Residences. Your student reference numberis used in the booking process and this will be issued when you have metall the conditions in your offer.RegistrationInformation about registration, how to pay tuition fees, how to travel toAberystwyth and induction events for new postgraduates will be availablein the summer prior to registration.
