A prospective student-athlete who is given such a meal may not also be provided by the institution withan official visit in any sport. [R] (Adopted: 1/11/94, Revised: 12/15/06)13.7.2.1.2.2 Exception—Sports Other Than Football and Basketball. In sports other thanfootball and basketball, a prospective student-athlete visiting an institution’s campus as part of an admissionsevent (open house) may be provided with one meal in the institution’s on-campus studentdining facility and may have contact with institutional coaching staff members only during such anevent without the visit counting as an official visit. The institution must be able to certify that it is theinstitution’s normal policy to provide such a meal to all prospective student-athletes (including nonathletes)attending the admissions event. [R] (Adopted: 1/14/97 effective 8/1/97)13.7.2.1.3 Housing—Lodging in Dormitories. A prospective student-athlete on an unofficial visitmay stay in an enrolled student-athlete’s dormitory room only if the prospective student-athlete pays theregular institutional rate for such lodging. [R]13.7.2.1.4 Transportation During Unofficial Visit. For regulations relating to transportation on anunofficial visit, see Bylaw 13.5.3.13.7.2.1.5 Reserving Game Tickets. An institution may not reserve tickets (in addition to the permissiblecomplimentary admissions) to be purchased by a prospective student-athlete (or individuals accompanyingthe prospective student-athlete) on an unofficial visit. Tickets may be purchased only in the samemanner as any other member of the general public. [R] (Adopted: 1/10/92)13.7.2.1.6 Parking. An institution may not arrange special parking for prospective student-athletes to usewhile attending a member institution’s campus athletics event during an unofficial visit. [R] (Adopted: 1/10/92)13.7.2.1.7 Academic Interviews. An athletics department staff member may arrange academic interviewsfor a prospective student-athlete on an unofficial visit.13.7.2.1.8 Student Host. A student host used during an unofficial visit must either be a current student-athleteor a student who is designated in a manner consistent with the institution’s policies for providingcampus visits or tours to prospective students in general. (Revised: 8/5/04)13.7.2.2 Home Games at Site Other Than Regular Home Facility. If an institution schedules any regular-seasonhome games at a site not designated as its regular home facility, the host institution may provide amaximum of three complimentary admissions to any such game for the exclusive use of a prospective studentathleteand those persons accompanying the prospective student-athlete. Tournament and postseason games areexcluded. The institution shall not arrange or permit any other entertainment or payment of expenses, includingtransportation, except as permitted in Bylaw 13.5.3. [R] (Revised: 4/24/03)13.7.2.3 Conference Tournaments. A member institution may not provide complimentary admissions to aprospective student-athlete for a postseason conference tournament. The prospective student-athlete may purchasetickets only in the same manner as any other member of the general public. [R] (Revised: 1/10/91 effective 8/1/91)13.7.2.4 NCAA Championships or Other Postseason Contests. The provision of complimentary orreduced-cost admissions to prospective student-athletes for an NCAA championship (all rounds) or other postseasoncontests (e.g., bowl game, NAIA or NIT championship) constitutes excessive entertainment and is prohibited.The prospective student-athlete may purchase tickets to such events only in the same manner as anyother member of the general public. [R] (Revised: 1/10/92)13.7.2.5 Visit Unrelated to Recruitment. The limitations on providing entertainment to a prospective student-athleteshall not extend to a visit to the institution’s campus for a purpose having nothing whatsoever to dowith the prospective student-athlete’s athletics recruitment by the institution (e.g., band trip, fraternity weekend,athletics team’s attendance at a sporting event with the high school coach). The institution’s athletics departmentor representatives of its athletics interests may not be involved in any way with the arrangements for the visit,other than the institution providing (in accordance with established policy) free admissions to an athletics eventon a group basis, rather than personally to the prospective student-athlete. [R]13.7.2.6 Visit Related to National Student-Athlete Day or National Girls and Women in SportsDay. The limitations on providing entertainment to a prospective student-athlete shall not extend to a visit tothe institution’s campus for activities related to National Student-Athlete Day and National Girls and Women inSports Day. [R] (Adopted: 1/14/97, Revised: 4/22/98 effective 8/1/98)13.7.2.7 Professional Tryout or Workout Activities. During an unofficial visit, a prospective studentathletemay not attend events in which professional tryout or workout activities occur. (See Bylaw 13.6.7.10.)[R] (Adopted: 1/8/07)13.7.3 Activities During Unofficial Visit. An institution may not arrange miscellaneous, personalizedrecruiting aids (e.g., personalized jerseys, personalized audio/visual scoreboard presentations) and may not permita prospective student-athlete to engage in any game-day simulations (e.g., running onto the field with the teamduring pregame introductions) during an unofficial visit. Personalized recruiting aids include any decorative itemsand special additions to any location the prospective student-athlete will visit (e.g., hotel room, locker room,coach’s office, conference room, arena) regardless of whether the items include the prospective student-athlete’sname or picture.
