In men’s basketball, institutional coaching staff membersmay accept collect and toll-free (e.g., 1-800, 1-888) telephone calls placed by a prospective student-athleteand the prospective student-athlete’s parents and legal guardians, provided the calls are placed not earlierthan the date on which an institution may begin placing telephone calls to a prospective student-athlete.(Adopted: 11/1/01 effective 4/1/02, Revised: 5/30/06, 12/12/06, 10/27/11 effective 6/15/12)13.1.3.6.2 Exception—Women’s Basketball. In women’s basketball, institutional coaching staffmembers may accept collect and toll-free telephone calls placed by a prospective student-athlete and theprospective student-athlete’s parents and legal guardians, provided the calls are not placed earlier than thedate on which an institution may begin placing telephone calls to the prospective student-athlete (see Bylaw13.1.3.1.4). (Adopted: 11/1/07)13.1.3.7 Telephone Calls Regarding Institutional Camp or Clinic Logistical Issues. Telephone callsto an individual (or his or her parents, legal guardians, relatives or coach) that relate solely to institutional campor clinic logistical issues (e.g., missing registration information) are not subject to the restrictions on telephonecalls, provided no recruiting conversation or solicitation of particular individuals to attend a camp or clinic occursduring such calls. (Adopted: 9/24/09)13.1.4 Visit to Prospective Student-Athlete’s Educational Institution. Visits to a prospectivestudent-athlete’s educational institution that will occur during that portion of the day when classes are beingconducted for all students must receive the approval of the executive officer (or the executive officer’s designatedrepresentative) of the prospective student-athlete’s educational institution. (Revised: 10/27/11 effective 8/1/12)13.1.4.1 Men’s Basketball. In men’s basketball, institutional staff members may visit a prospective studentathlete’seducational institution on not more than one occasion during a particular week within a recruitingperiod that occurs during the academic year, regardless of the number of prospective student-athletes enrolledin the institution or whether any prospective student-athlete is contacted on that occasion. During the Aprilevaluation periods, if a nonscholastic event occurs at the educational institution of a participating prospectivestudent-athlete, institutional staff members may visit the prospective student-athlete’s educational institution onnot more than one occasion during a particular week (see Bylaw 13.1.4.4). During the July evaluation periods,there are no limitations on the number of times an institutional staff member may visit a prospective studentathlete’seducational institution. (Revised: 10/27/11 effective 8/1/12)13.1.4.1.1 Tournament Exception. In men’s basketball, visiting a prospective student-athlete’s educationalinstitution on consecutive days during a particular week to observe a tournament or tier of a tournamentshall count as a single visit (see Bylaws 13.1.7.15 and 13.1.7.15.1). (Revised: 10/27/11 effective 8/1/12)13.1.4.2 Football and Women’s Basketball. In football and women’s basketball, institutional staff membersmay visit a prospective student-athlete’s educational institution on not more than one occasion during aparticular week within a contact period, regardless of the number of prospective student-athletes enrolled in theinstitution or whether any prospective student-athlete is contacted on that occasion. (Revised: 1/11/94 effective8/1/94, 10/27/11 effective 8/1/12)13.1.4.2.1 Visits During Contact Period—Football. [FBS/FCS] In football, one contact per prospectivestudent-athlete is permitted during each week of the contact period as specified in Bylaw 13.17.4 eitherat the prospective student-athlete’s educational institution or any other location (e.g., prospective studentathlete’shome). A visit to the prospective student-athlete’s educational institution and any other location(e.g., prospective student-athlete’s home) during the same calendar day shall be considered one contact.(Adopted: 1/10/92 effective 8/1/92, Revised: 1/11/94 effective 8/1/94, 12/15/06)13.1.4.2.2 Visits During Evaluation Period—Bowl Subdivision Football. [FBS] In bowl subdivisionfootball, not more than two coaches per institution may visit a prospective student-athlete’s educationalinstitution on any one calendar day during an evaluation period. (Adopted: 4/29/10)13.1.4.2.3 Visits During Evaluation Period—Women’s Basketball. In women’s basketball, institutionalstaff members may visit a prospective student-athlete’s educational institution on not more than oneoccasion during a particular week within an evaluation period that occurs during the academic year. Duringthe July evaluation period, there are no limitations on the number of times an institutional staff membermay visit a prospective student-athlete’s educational institution. In women’s basketball, visiting a prospective student-athlete’seducational institution on consecutive days during a particular week to observe a tournamentor tier of a tournament shall count as a single visit (see Bylaws 13.1.7.15 and 13.1.7.15.1).
