through centralized production and global competition. Advantages <strong>of</strong><br />

vertical <strong>in</strong>tegration are the key to achiev<strong>in</strong>g global production economic<br />

because the efficient scale <strong>of</strong> the vertically <strong>in</strong>tegrated system is greater<br />

than the size <strong>of</strong> national markets. Achiev<strong>in</strong>g production economies<br />

necessarily implies movement <strong>of</strong> exports among countries.<br />
