The Jodhpur InitiativesIn February 2005, a Senior Experts Symposium, Asia-Pacific Creative Communities: A Strategy for the21 st Century, was convened in Jodhpur, India, by UNESCO in collaboration with UNIDO, WIPO, the WorldBank and the Asian Development Bank. The symposium aimed to set a long-term strategy for the promotionof the cultural industries in the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, with a specific view to thepotential of this sector to affect poverty reduction. The strategy adopted by the Experts Group is knownas the Jodhpur Initiatives.The UN Interagency Technical Working Group on Cultural Industries <strong>Statistics</strong> in AsiaThe UN Interagency Technical Working Group on Cultural Industries <strong>Statistics</strong> was formed following,and upon the recommendation of the Experts assembled for, the Jodhpur Symposium. The purpose ofthe Working Group is to collaborate on the development and implementation of a strategy for the collectionand analysis of cultural industries statistics and their impact on economic and social well-beingat the global, regional, national, and community levels.vii
