Vasectomy Clinic (C1 – FPI)<strong>Resident</strong>s also participate in Vasectomy Clinic, which is incorporated into aprocedure training clinic located at SCHC and precepted by family physicians.The goal is to have residents become proficient at performing vasectomies, and allaspects relating to the procedure, including counseling, pre-op exam, and post-opcare.A. The family physician's role in providing health care to a communityincludes the application of medical knowledge to the care of various populations, schoolmedicine, occupational medicine, epidemiology, health education, Home Care andHospice, and public health. This rotation will also emphasize health care delivery issuesunique to rural and remote locations in Far Northern California. <strong>Resident</strong>s are expectedto achieve the full set of defined Community Medicine Competencies during thisrotation. Finally, additional and important longitudinal experiences are structured in theFamily & Community Medicine rotation in the PGY II and PGY III years (see Clinic Iand Clinic II). Service Description<strong>Resident</strong>s will work at Hill Country Community Clinic on Mondays and Wednesdays.Experience in this rural clinic, servicing multiple small isolated communities in themountain region northeast of Redding, gives the resident the chance to learn clinicalskills without the assistance of labs, radiological imaging, and nearby consultants.Telemedicine, however, is a potential link to Mercy Redding.<strong>Resident</strong>s are also exposed to occupational health at Mercy Medical Center, and maywork with the Ambulance Service at Mercy to understand the presentation andmanagement of emergencies “in the field.”<strong>Resident</strong>s spend a day at the Shasta County Public <strong>Health</strong> Department.
